I just replaced the speedo drive gear on my (new to me) 2006 LX50, as the old one was chewed up and the speedo wasn't working. I installed the new gear and brass guide, but when I installed the rubber spacer I noticed it stuck out above the top of the hole, and when I screwed down the retaining plate it squished the rubber spacer (see photo). Is this correct?

Yes. It needs to be squished so as to keep the cable in placeā€¦
