Folks. I have the itch again. I have a 2005 PX 150 that I purchased 12 years ago with 3200 miles on the dot. A few months later at 3700 miles I put a budget friendly Malossi 166cc(cast iron). It has served me well, not a single hick-up. I put about 3500 miles on this kit and I can get a hair over 65 mph (GPS) on the stock gearing. Honestly I never thought that this kit was going to last me 11 years but it is proven to be reliable because I open up the throttle on every stretch of road that I see open and clear.

Fast foward. Last year I purchased a new cast iron Malossi 177 cc for my Sprint Veloce and it is day and night compared to the Malossi 166cc. Although the top speed is very similar once you wind up both engines the truth of the matter is that the newer Malossi 177cc (cast iron) feels much stronger accelerating. Is not just me saying it, I tested it with a specific acceleration device and I also rode along with my son and the 177cc leave the 166 cc it in the dust.

With that being said, I am keen to go with another Malossi 177 cc cast iron but I am open to other brands. I never had DR or VGR or quattrini. I just want something of decent quality again. Is the Aluminum version of the Malossi 177cc worth it? Freak Moped on YouTube doesn't think the aluminum is worth it. I also had a Polini 177( cast iron), it was a beast, lots of torque and you could feel it right of way but I heard that the design is still kind of old. I absolutely want to skip Pinasco for own terrible experience.

Would go for another Malossi again? I really like Polini. Anyone has changed from a Malossi 166cc to something else that want to recommend? I will not do the ported engine cases for now, just a slap on cylinder.

The VMC Stelvio I have on my one Allstate is obnoxiously powerful. With a Polini box and a 24.24 75mph is no problem. I hit that at 1/2 throttle in 4th. Too scared to wind it past that though. You're basically floating the front wheel at that speed.

Thank you very much for your input. I must say that I am not familiar with VMC Stelvio.

I already looked at the SIP page. Who makes this kit(what country)?

so is your 166 still going strong but you're bored? sounds like it's been a good top end for you. I love mine on my PX.

The short answer is I am bored and it is still going strong. It has been very reliable specially since switching all my scooters to Motul 710. But I have had other scooters at the mean time with other comparable cylinders and the Malossi 166 is kind of weak. It will get up to top speed but is not that great on acceleration. I am a true performance nerd, I like to tinker with exhaust, cylinders and measure performance. A lot has changed in the aftermarket world over the last 11 years since I got the Malossi 166cc.. I heard some good things about Gick performance and their porting on the 166 cc but it will cost me a lot. Last year I put the Malossi 177cc on my Sprint and it leaves my PX Malossi 166 cc in the dust.

The only down side to all of this is that I am piling up a ton of unused factory cylinders and pistons. The current Malossi 166cc will likely ended up in a shelf collecting dust unless I put it for sale.
