It was me, talking in my sleep.

I believe, in that case, Travelodge is its own context.

It wasn't overheard bit it was a little odd to hear - It's not a real curtain, it's a picture of a curtain.

It came from the latest Bald and Bankrupt You Tube instalment.

Overheard at the expensive convention hotel that I am currently at (not any of my peeps):

"They raised the minimum wage at McDonalds. You better believe that McDonalds isn't going to absorb the hit. Now I'm going to have to pay for it."

Shouted out by a female colleague at work:

"Get your finger out of there!"

"People who like rap music are terrible at spelling.
They always forget to put the C in the front!"

Or perhaps the "C" is silent

"We should talk to the fly and rat people, and see what they want to do."

"She was wearing a see-through push-up bra with a big window."

One female hiker to another, going the other way in Griffith Park.

Pretty sure we live in the same neighborhood.

"Remember when for like 2 days I was gonna start a stamp collection? That's such an old person's hobby."

Yeah, I think you posted a picture of yourself on here playing at the Satellite so I've thought of that. I used to play there a lot when it was Spaceland. I'm in Silver Lake, north of Sunset and Coronado. I saw a map once where the "border" between Silver Lake and Echo Park ran directly through my house. Where you at?

It wasn't overheard but a Fireman's Ladder was described as a Height Vehicle in a Newspaper today.

Well, it is.

I think that AI wrote the article. No one says Height Vehicle.

While that may seem to be the case, I would being willing to bet that everyone who calls a hammer a "unidirectional hand-held high-impact device" also says "height vehicle".

Neither participant in this overheard convo is a native English speaker, so wouldn't be privy to certain nuances. A man leaving the office just now unironically told his female boss "See you next Tuesday."

Ignorance may not be bliss, but there's a lot less to be offended by.

The phrase "See You Next Tuesday" is a popular slang meaning "cunt", it originates from a humorous backronym which spells out "C U Next Tuesday".

Are you pulling our leg here, Jim? "See you next Tuesday" is very much a British-ism.

No, really - I'm never one for euphemisms. English folk would just use 'cunt' and have done with it. I realise it's verboten in USA-land (instant end of friendship, relationship, marriage, whatever) but not so back in Blighty.

Fair enough. But still, the only people I heard using this phrase 15 years ago were British.

I think there was even a discussion in the moderator lounge about it.

I've spent my entire life in Los Angeles (so far) and I've never heard this. I would bet that they are actually going to see each other next Tuesday.

BTW, the word "cunt" has a different connotation in American English that is directed specifically at women and is considered quite offensive.

They ARE actually going to see one another next Tuesday. It was delivered literally and literally was how it was received. I'm juvenile enough to have laughed when I heard it, but who the hell knew what I was laughing at? Story of my life...

To be fair, I spent the 1st 23 years of my life in NY state, so I picked up a fair amount of bad phrases and habits before arriving in this land of milk & honeys.

The problem with speaking Latin is getting the accent right.

I've got too many questions about that.
