Walking along the canalside last night I heard a woman say into her phone,

A colleague inadvertently said "I just came out of Kate Sheppard's Bush...."

Kate Sheppard was a prominent figure in New Zealand history, (Women's suffrage movement, 1880s-1920s) She has a building named after her in our Capital.

Sheppard's Bush is a suburb in London UK.

Kate Sheppard's Bush is probably something only Mr Sheppard would have knowledge of.

Last weekend I heard a guy say his Lambretta goes like "shit off a shovel" which got me wondering what a strange saying that is as he's describing how rapid his antiquated Italian scooter goes when surely shit sticks to shovels and doesn't go anywhere very fast at all.

After some really icy New England roads one day this winter, I heard "it was slicker than pelican snot on a doorknob."

Yeah, sounds like a New Englander all right.

Especially if it's in the same convo with "you cahn't get they-ah from hee-yah."

I heard a local guy on the news say 'wicked good'. Massholes don't say wicked good. They say wicked pissa. But I guess you can't say that on TV.

The censors can be fickle, but wicked pissah would seem OK to me. But you're right. Wicked good isn't the norm. Wicked by itself (it was wicked windy yesterday), wicked awesome, and especially wicked smaht--those are the usual go-to's. There's a lot of funny lingo in these parts, and then there's the accent on top of it. ("Oh my Gawd! My Vesper's gawt a lawt of wicked pep since I installed those aftah mahkit pahts.")

When I was in 6th grade, the junior high I attended was 1 mile from home. The school district considered that too close for me to ride the bus. Had I lived across the street I'd have attended a different junior high and would have ridden a bus.

This was in Menasha, Wisconsin, and there was a hill half-way between the school and my house, so I did have to walk uphill, both ways, in the snow.

It's my "home" airport but not always. I do look up and smile after going through security there though.
