Can anyone identify this pipe?
I found it in a box of parts that came with my basket case VBB. I install it a few months back. I like the way is sounds, similar to the old VW Beetles, has that same style stinger and gives that slight whistle once in a while. It has a very nostalgic sound to me and brings a smile to my face. I have no idea if it is helping or hurting my cause. It might be super clogged as well. The scoot ran OK with the pipe but I can't really tell the difference between that pipe and the SITo211 i bought from Scooter Mercado.

I think you may have come up with the answer, and somebody married up a VW piece onto a stock 3 port style muffler. See where the 2nd mounting tab would be and has been cut off? Flip it over and get us a closeup pic of where it is joined and maybe we can tell if it was done in a factory or somebody's garage.

I do like it, looks nice and should keep the nasty 2T splooge mostly off your rear tire. Can you show me how it looks on your bike?

I think the 2nd tab was cut off because this is from another model scoot. Perhaps a Sprint. The previous owner converted it to 10" rims (I know that is wrong, but I kinda like it) and that style of pipe has to be used to clear the larger tire. The stinger welding looks pretty professional and/or factory. The pic of the pipe on the scoot is the best I could do as it is a screen shot from a video. And I know the trim on the cowling is not correct either. But I like that too. The scoot is currently not running. I have been cleaning up a bit waiting for parts.

Back in the early 80's in the UK quite a few lads modified their small frame exhausts using the VW Beetle tail pipe to create a reverse cone principle to scavenge a little bit more torque on their v50s. 90s and 100s; the pipe sticking out the side and elevated did look quite cool. This was before we could get hold of after market performance pipes and most weekends with newbie vespa smallframe owners was spent porting things in the garage, grinding down cylinder heads, packing cylinder gaskets. The reverse cone idea of the VW pipe was part of these mods. Maybe you have come across an original 1983 era modded exhaust from when this was a trend.

Hard to tell from that one weld pic, but somebody w/ experience and a good MIG welder may have garage made that muffler. Maybe even in Indonesia... Can we see more pics of your bike? That flash panel on your cowl looks mighty familiar, I thought mine was rare but now yours is the third one I've ever seen, and all in less than a year!

I have zero pics of it together. Plenty of pics dissembled. I do have 1 video of it running but not quite finished. I must disclose that it has some VietBodge trim on it. I am aware that the cowling trim, glove box and 10" wheels are not correct but it works for me. You can almost hear the pipe stinger whistle at times. Pretty much new everything inside. Sorry for the quality. First YouTube post in 11 years.

Sooooooo, since this muffler/pipe is not too common, I would like to salvage it for continued use. I am concerned if I put it in a bonfire it might ruin the chrome stinger inside and out. Any other methods of cleaning out the gunk? Before I read about burning it out, I was thinking of flushing it with mineral spirits and perhaps Acetone as the final rinse.
