Hi all! Long time lurker here. Thanks for building such a great resource and group!

Unfortunately my 2016 GTS300 was totaled/written-off in an accident a couple of months ago and I'm in the process of dealing with the insurer to get a fair value for it.
There seems to be a question over whether it's a standard 300 or a Super. I'm pretty certain it's a Super, given that it has the vent on the cowl, red front shock spring, black wheels, contrasting seat piping etc., but the insurer says the VIN is saying it's just a regular GTS300. Is it possible to tell for certain which submodel it is from the VIN? I've tried using various VIN decoders but they just say GTS300 and I'm not sure if this means that it isn't a Super, or just that the VIN doesn't differentiate sub-models in this way.

Any help would be appreciated.

It's a Super. The vented cowls identify it as such.

All 300s are Supers (of some flavor) unless it's a GTV, which yours is obviously not.

There weren't any plain "GTS 300" models in 2016 (or maybe ever?), though we use the terms interchangeably.

I might be wrong about that, actually.

Also, it makes almost no difference. For all intents and purposes, GTS 300 = GTS 300 Super

Didn't the super get the slotted cowling?

Yes, but the picture clearly shows the slotted cowling.

Thanks guys. That's what I thought.

The specific question I'm dealing with the loss adjuster right now is whether it came with the rear rack or if it was added later. If it didn't come with the rack as standard, the insurance will pay for the rack as an accessory on top of the value of the vehicle. If it came with it they won't.

It's my understanding the Super didn't come with the rack from the factory.

The touring model that had the racks. But not that particular rear rack.

Thanks, that's what I thought.

Does anyone know if the VIN should specifically say it's a Super somewhere?

Looks like there was in fact a non-super GTS300 in 2016. It had both the slotted cowls and was fitted with a rear rack.

That said, I still don't know if you can distinguish them with the VIN.

Hmmm.... interesting.

This seals the deal though:
Quote:
Vespa GTS 300 comes in Nero Vulcano, Blu Midnight and Grigio Dolomiti (all with a beige saddle).
Vespa GTS Super 125 and 300 are available in Nero Lucido, Montebianco, Rosso Dragon and Blu Gaiola, all four with a to black saddle.

Try sticking your vin into this.

Try with both English and with Italian selected (results can be a bit different)

I know I'm late to the party but, most manufacturers will have support areas of their sites for downloading your owners manual, looking up recalls, etc. If your brand ever doesn't have that, just call up your local dealer and ask for the parts guy. He can look it up on the platform he uses to order you your parts. He'll know as soon as he enters your VIN.
