I'm not going to lie, I was really stressing over getting this main seal installed correctly without the factory tool. I tried using electrical tape to build up the area around the shaft but I still ended up damaging the first seal (folded the inner seal, once it folded once it would never go on correctly). That was a $40+ mistake that I didn't want to make again. That's when I called my uncle and had him make this "tool" for me. OD is 24mm, ID is 17.1mm (the shaft is exactly 17mm) and a random length and taper. Worked like a charm. Using this and a brass punch around the outside of the seal and she went right on.

I did ask my uncle and he would be willing to make more of these at a pretty low price point if anyone is interested. Just let me know.
The "tool". Made out of aluminum and put on a lathe to get the correct dimensions.

I took this photo as I was removing the tool but before the seal was completely seated all the way.

Thanks for sharing!

It looks like the taper side is up, is that right? If so, I'm confused why the taper is necessary?

Did you use the punch on this tool to seat the seal?

If anything, I thought you'd want the tool to taper out to give more area to use when pushing or tapping on it. I probably just don't fully understand how it works

That's correct. Taper side is up so that the rubber seal slides over it easily. The bottom outter diameter of the tool matches the outter diameter of the shaft that the seal sits on. The whole point of this tool is so you don't fold the lip of the rubber seal when driving the seal in.

Oh, I get it now! Thanks!

I thought it was a pressing tool Facepalm emoticon Now I understand it's a little "ramp" that lets you ease the seal onto the shaft.
