Hello, fellow Cal Vespisti;

Is insurance coverage mandatory for a vintage Vespa in California, and if, so, what would it cost for basic liability insurance?

TIA

Yes it is mandatory.

Coverage cost will vary by county/city/etc.

Call and get a quote.

In TX I pay 151.00 for liability only on 4 scooters via Progressive/USAA

I have 1 scooter fully insured via haggerty and it's like 170.00 a year.

I use Hagerty for all my scooters and they are great. Not only will they sell you a full coverage policy (nice if anything happens to your scooter) but they also have an add on that allows you to keep your scooter if it is ever totaled (valuable if you have parts that are worth a good deal of money that are salvageable) for only a few dollars extra. My wife and I had an accident on one of my scooters a couple years ago and they paid out with no hassle, just as aside (repairs for my scooter and medical for my wife). These policies are so cheap when considering what they offer. At least that is my opinion.

the good thing with Hagerty is when you add multiple vintage scoots, the extra per bike is not so high. So something like $150 for the first, but the second will only be like $50 more or something. I had 2 vintage on the policy for a while and it was definitely not 2x as expensive.
