I have a 2007 Vespa 250ie GTS. Over 10 days, I did some long deferred maintenance: replaced tires, changed fluids, replaced instrument cluster, removed all accessories (racks, cowls and lamps), and gave it a good compounding. I put it all back together and have two of these leftover… I cannot figure out where they belong. Any help out there?

Air cleaner - top two fasteners to close box . Easy to scrape the back of hands while replacing screwing them in.

OK, you both proved to be pretty good in round one of "Place That Part". How about a lightning round for the championship? I have this one small octagonal nut remaining. It most certainly fits in a small collar somewhere, but I don't recall replacing any bolts that didn't get traction. Any ideas?

I'm at the office, but parts diagrams suggest it might be from the small cowling at the rear tip of the floor board...I'll see when I get home.

Can you help me diagnose why the first image is missing? Not sure what the sequence of events was, and if there was an edit that went awry?

Not blaming anyone for anything, just trying to understand what went wrong with the forum software.

I can see it here - currently in the UK, Windows 10, Chrome with loads of privacy stuff as add-ons.

It's physically missing from the actual server. Any remnant of it still visible is a function of CDN edge cacheing (which replicates the image worldwide near the point of consumption) or your local browser cache.

OP reported a double post and asked that a mod delete one.

1 post had 4 replies... 1 post had no replies. I deleted the post with no replies (which may have been the original post?). I think that may be the cause and not your software?

Thanks for the update. That probably explains the missing image.

Technically still my software's fault.

Looks like a battery nut. I have a zip lock bag full of them.

Assuming your 2007 GTS' isn't running on an original battery that would be 17 years old by now, someone probably dropped the nut out of one of the battery's it's had over the years, and it didn't matter since the replacement battery came with its own nuts.

??? What is the string of replies beginning with Jess at 11:51? Do they have anything to do with the original post about identifying a thumb screw? This site has been doing strange things since last night.

I was trying to figure out why the image in the original post is missing. It sounds like maybe a glitch when Birdsnest deleted a double post.

Adri's comment is based on only seeing the second picture later in the thread -- he can't see the original image (nor can I -- it is physically missing from the server at this moment).

Can you be more specific about "doing strange things since last night?"

First, if you jump into the middle of a user string, it might be helpful if you identify yourself and your purpose. Your odd question, and a subsequent reply, without any context was rather confusing.

Last night on both an iPad and an iPhone, I was unable to enter any of the specific forums (general discussion, etc.). I ultimately got into the general discussion forum, but then there was no icon to submit a new post.

This morning, I was able to enter the General discussion forum and start a new thread. When emails notified me of replies to my post, the links would not work, producing a message of something "forbidden".

Hi. I'm jess. I own and operate this forum. I also write all the new code, maintain the old code, fix the server, pay the bills, and occasionally sweep the floors.

I asked if you could help me diagnose why the first picture was missing -- hoping you (the OP) could shed some light on the sequence of events that led to that circumstance. Other people (the replies to my reply) did in fact shed some light on the problem.

You might be surprised to learn that when you start a topic on a public forum, other people might reply to your thread. It might be on-topic, or off-topic.

I'm not entirely sure what was happening. I was online for most of last night, and wasn't encountering any issues like that. It could have been that you were suffering from a localized network issue, or even a regional problem getting traffic from wherever you are to the MV server. I'm honestly not sure.

Do the links in the email you received work now?

The links in email notices seem to be working for me now. Other than my explanation of some wonky behavior last night, I don't know of anything useful to add. Thank you.

As to your question, part of the reason I didn't understand your post was because no pictures are missing on my view.
It will be. It exists in various caches worldwide, and probably in your browser cache. But as soon as those ephemeral copies disappear, that image is completely gone. It is entirely absent from the main image repository that is the source of all the cached versions. At that point, nobody will know what your post is referring to. Quite a few people probably already can't see what you've referred to, and can only see the battery nut image (the second image you posted).
cygnet wrote:
Given that circumstance, I'm not sure what to offer you that would help.
No worries. Birdsnest explained that he deleted a double post, which probably took the original image with it. It's not supposed to happen that way, but apparently there's a bug in there somewhere that I will have to hunt down, if I can reproduce the problem.

Don't listen to him cygnet, he's lying to you

Hey Jess, I think I saw what he's talking about too.

When I was clicking on the 4 for page 4 of one of the EV threads, I got a blank white page that just said Forbidden.

When I clicked on the 3 for page 3, same thing.

When I went back and simply clicked on the name of the thread, it loaded perfectly well and everything was fine again.

On the flip side, I never had any images with the pics in this thread, both worked great for me from the get-go, so... *shrug*

What day (and approximate time) was this? And did it say Forbidden, or Not Found?

I think it was "Forbidden" because, I don't specifically remember the word, but I do remember wondering if I was banned from a thread and wondering what I might have said that a mod would've gotten bent out of shape about this time ROFL emoticon

I'm assuming if it was "not found", that thought probably wouldn't have crossed my mind.

As for when, it would have been sometime before this post: Rescue van deployed to help stranded electric vehicles (Post 2661802)

That post took me a while to write and I was still watching the video as I wrote it so it could have even been half an hour before, maybe less, not sure *shrug emoticon*

That would have almost certainly been a different bug, related to new software that I pushed out early this afternoon. That bug was specifically related to the mini-page numbers found next to the title of topics in the forum topic list (see below).

One of the moderators also noticed the problem, pinged me about it, and I pushed a patch to the server a few minutes later.

I think this is different than whatever cygnet saw last night, as I hadn't yet pushed any changes to the server last night.

But who knows.

Pro Tip: When you encounter something wonky on the site, screenshot it. It's helpful for me to see the context of whatever problem you're encountering.
