My wife took our recently purchase (new to us) 2013 S 150 i.e. (1700+ miles on it) out for a spin and after a few hours I got a call that it was making clunking noises, black smoke, and the check oil and engine lights were illuminated.

We had it towed home and after a visual inspection from the outside I saw nothing amiss, but did decide to start it up, perhaps against better judgment, and yes, there were clunking noises, smoke, and the oil and engine lights.

The only history I have on this scooter is from the previous owner, a friend of ours, who mentioned that the guy he purchased it from had the cylinder bored over to 188 cm^3 from the stock 150. This sounds like it could be the root issue, meaning something wasn't put back correctly, but would love to know if anyone has any idea of what else this may be.

I plan to take it to a mechanic shortly but would appreciate any words of wisdom or advice.

If you're handy enough to pop the rocker cover off you can show us the valve carnage hidden inside.
How many km since the big bore kit was fitted?

Yeah, znomit right that's top end damage, but to what extent, wouldn't start it again it only causes more damage, the cover needs to be off and then inspected.
Welcome to MV.c 😉👍

the cylinder wasn't bored, somebody put on an aftermarket 187 kit (née Malossi 190). likelihood is something let go and thus the resultant smoke show.

if it wasn't assembled correctly, maintained properly, or broken in properly these love to eat up rings and break valve springs consequently dropping a valve and the ensuing mayhem.

pop the rocker off and see how bad it is, we love to see carnage around these parts.

Thank you all for the sound advice. I've learned quite a bit. I'll be getting it to the shop soon and will get some photos then, unfortunately my work schedule precludes me from doing this on my own at the moment. Hope it's not too much carnage! Crying or Very sad emoticon

Where's the fun in that? Before you got your driver's license, did you know who Hooker, Holley, Hurst and Cragar were? Most of the people I grew up around did. And some of us never outgrew the enthusiasm we had then for making cars go faster. If you saw someone your age in a stock Mustang, it was probably their mom's car.
Yes, you can get a Hayabusa and outrun every scooter ever made, but there's something visceral about burying the speedometer on a Honda Elite 50 while you're still accelerating.

+1. My first car was a Camaro that had been through a lot of drivers in our family. It had a ton of rust, but a solid 327 with 60k miles on it. Bought for $300 from my sis.

My first mod was to turn the cover over on the air cleaner, more air could get in, and it made a nice roar on induction.

Who knows how much dirt got in. I was saving up for some Cragers and my dad talked me out of it.
