Hello, I'm having a weird noise while starting my Beverly.

The noise is coming only when the starter is turning, and is happening only when it's cold outside AND the engine is cold also (if it's cold outside, and the engine is warm, there is no noise).

I'm thinking it's either the starter, or the sprag clutch is making weird noises when the engine oil is cold.

Did somebody had this problem, or any tips to help?

The noise in question: https://youtube.com/shorts/FoZremAkYLI?feature=share

I had that noise with my 2014 BV. Although it was half as loud. Sold it with 46,000 miles on it. If it's a grinding noise, you've got a problem.

Starter is wearing out. Replace the start components. You only get so many starts out of them.

That just sound like a bearing in the starter that doesn't like the cold. Presumably a phosphor-bronze one that could do with a tiny drop of 3-in-1.
That's also the easiest and cheapest thing to check.

I doubt it's the starter wearing out as such - that'd be the brushes if anything which would lead to intermittent starts, not squeaky ones.

When bronze bearings start squealing, they are worn out. Oiling them will stop the squeal only temporarily. Permanent fix is replacement.

Rebuilding starters requires a good deal of skill plus access to parts. For most, replacing the entire assembly is the better alternative.

I was worried that maybe the sprag clutch was starting to acting out. I will rebuilt the starter, or order a new one. Thank you for the replies!

No problems here; however, I'm paying particular attention to this topic. Has any one asked Robot yet?
