Hello everybody,
After overfilling with gas, the engine light on my GTS 300 stays on. Any idea how to turn it off?

Some lights do go out if the battery is disconnected for a minute or so. Others stay on and have to be switched off by physically plugging in a code reader.

Some codes will clear themselves after several healthy starts of the bike. Since you believe it's caused by overfill then I'd suspect that this code is probably one of that type.

This happened to me a while back. Someone told me it was prob the evap system and to leave gas cap off after the scooter is in for the night. That worked for me.

Thank you for your answers.
I had already tried disconnecting the battery, it didn't change anything.
So I'm going to leave the fuel cap open overnight.
And then be patient: my GTS works very well

I see you live in France. Your GTS is EU-spec I guess.
Does it have an EVAP-system?

I always thought the EVAP system was only on the American spec vehicles as well.

It's not a requirement for the UK Vespas.

I'm not sure about the GTS, but on the Primavera / Sprint it's easy to see as the underseat bucket has a large lump which makes it difficult to store a helmet.

I think it was when the HPE got an update to E5 in Europe (late 2020?) that they got the evap. Here in Aus we still don't have it.

I think I should go to the dealership to have them plug in a code reader...

First time I read of an evap system on a Euro scooter. We don't have them here either…

So you've had to fill up one of two times since the original overfill?

Indeed. I thought we did not have these evap-systems here in Europe.

EVAP is necessary to archive Euro 5, so all Euro5 bikes include a EVAP System.

SteelBytes: Correct, change to Euro 5 was late 2020.

Maybe I was wrong and my 2017 GTS does not have an escape system... I must have confused it with the air bleeder pipe...
In fact, I have refueled several times since this light came on.

There's no EVAP on 2023/2024 GTSs sold in Greece. Do you get it in German market models??

If your Vespa has an EVAP system or not is easy to recognize.
It takes up part of the under seat compartment. If the compartment is empty you do not have an EVAP system.

Have a look:

That's new with Euro 5, because it is a requirement for Euro 5. Everywhere in Europe, including Greece…

ah, a european 2017 gts 300. pretty sure that doesn't have an evap.

so ... no idea what your problem is. since you've driven so many kms since this started I'd doubt that it's caused by the overfill. probably therefore time to see your mechanic/dealer to find out what the engine codes are.

I know all of these, I have access to Piaggio systems / parts catalogues, but still the models coming here don't have an EVAP system. We usually receive APAC models. Also, all 50cc 4T models come without limiters or if they do, we reprogram the ECU with the "free" rev map…

surprises me for Greece. But yes APAC models are not E5 and don't have evap (not even the gts '2023')

Yeah, it's a weird situation, different laws.
e.g. We always got unrestricted 50cc models (2T & 4T) or they came with directions to unrestrict them and no EVAP on E5 GTSs coming here (APAC or EMEA)…
