I'd invest in a better unit. Might work for a Primavera, but the wheel clamping mechanism is fiddly and the center tie down rings are small.

Do not load to capacity. A friend just dropped their XMAX on an LA freeway then one of the tiedown welds broke clean off.

If you can spare the dough, get a Tilt-A-Rack.

There are a few and you didn't specify which. I have one in aluminum and have used it for local hauls but it doesn't feel overwhelmingly secure to me. And I added a hitch extension so the handlebars wouldn't contact the glass window on my minivan. As a result it sticks pretty far out and doesn't deal well with bumps. Might be better suited to a vehicle with a hitch that is farther off the ground.

My preferred transport method is to remove mirrors and windscreen and put the scooter into the minivan.

I have the haulmaster, and I've used it twice to haul scooters, once a Vespa GT200 and the second time an Smax, across country and then home when I broke the scooter. I've also hauled a Honda Navi, and various other scooters over the years. It's a good value for the money.
On a dirt road, you can really get the back end of your car oscillating if you go fast enough.

Tip: The silence may be a more a sign that it's already been discussed ad nauseam. Try seeing what you find in the search. I think there is usually one or two discussions on this every single year and from what I remember it's the same people each time and we all say the same things and post the same pictures over and over, and I'm just as guilty as the rest
