I'm planning my next scooter project, engine will be 221 MHR, reed intake... I will be running a SIP vape ignition, probably variable (let me know otherwise) but not sure if I need AC or DC? Wiring is not my forte. So it'll just have a very basic loom, no battery, no indicators, just lights and brake light. Also, maybe a new post needed, but thinking about a hardcore box pipe to work with the MHR, I want that MHR powerband hit!!... any recommendations? TIA

No battery, stay with AC since it's simpler. BOX pipe wise, maybe the new BBS v2?? I still have it in the box but soon on my P...

I run DC personally, because you don't need a battery with the Vape, but you mostly need to decide if you're going to run LED lights, in which case you want DC
You can use the SIP or BGM 12v AC wiring harness with either of them and it'll be fine. If you're keeping an existing harness, it could get a little bit interesting, so fill us in on your plans there. For your build, you probably want a variable ignition, but realize it's a little trickier to get set up for reasons you can find via searching. What else is in your build plan? Reeds? Gearbox changes? What crank? We want to know! |

It'll be built on standard piaggio cases ported for reed induction, X360 reed intake with 30mm PHBH, standard gearbox with short 4th, maybe 24/63, worb 5 crank and exhaust TBA |

For what you're doing, AC will be just fine (as would DC, to be honest), so you're good either way. The BBS v2 would be a good option. A Megadella is probably better, or if you want to go crazy (and really get that MHR kick), something like a Nordspeed Mustang. It's too bad PipeDesign seems to have shut down. He designed and built some amazing pipes over the years. Once you're ready to really kick it all around, get yourself a build thread going. We all love a good high power build thread. And pictures. We really love pictures. |

For what you're doing, AC will be just fine (as would DC, to be honest), so you're good either way. That's great, thanks for confirming that. You have to set the timing based on peak power RPM's, so in your case, starting with 18 BTDC at 7500 or 8000 RPM's. For some reason, people struggle to work out how to do that. Of course, most of them don't understand that you have to get the RPM's up over 4,000 or so to set a static igntion, too, so maybe it's not the variable's fault. ![]() I've got the basic understanding so yeah, if anything goes pear shaped, I'll be back on here!! That sounds interesting, for sure. 60mm crank? What shape? Bell or flowed? (Does Worb5 even do a bell, or just flowed & balanced cranks? I'm too lazy to look right now) Once you pick an exhaust, you can start thinking about port timings. The BBS v2 would be a good option. I've ordered a SIP DSE for it, and really, I just always wanted to try it but ultimately, I think I'll prefer a box. I've built a couple of 62 and 64mm stroke quattrinis and they just love the box pipes and they're just are compact and just do their job...and you can keep your spare tire!! |

Don't forget that the only thing that makes it AC or DC is the regulator. So maybe start with AC and later try DC.
