Later in the day I met a Polish guy who had a Honda CB900F in Red and White in his garage plus a Jawa 350 in mint condition plus a Matchless 650 G12 CSR.
One of 125 built apparently.

One week to go until my other half and me join our friends on a little tour of France, Belguim and Luxembourg. We're on the GTS, one guy on his Royal Alloy, another friend on a BMW GS1200 and his wife on her R1200R.
I wonder if they will get miffed at us stopping for petrol every 90 miles |

I'm super happy with how my shoulder is progressing after rotator cuff repair. I took my first ride today (almost 6 weeks post op). It wasn't a long ride. Just a few laps of the neighborhood. But no pain from the riding. Before the surgery I couldn't ride without pain. This cheers me up!

One of the wing nuts on my crash bars had cross threaded, screwing up the bolt in the process. I figured out the thread size (M8 x 1.25), picked up a tap, die and the necessary handles, and managed to fix it. Haven't used a tap or die before, so I feel quite accomplished

I don't know if it would work in your case, but they make thread files that can restore threads that aren't too badly mangled. However, a tap and die are preferred. Good job!

My shoulder was injured Feb 11th. I did my best to ignore it in the hopes it wouldn't need surgical intervention. When it was no better in April, I decided I better get an orthopedic surgeon to have a look. I debated if I should hold off on the surgery until summer ride season was over. But the pain was getting worse and costing me sleep. As smoothly as the recovery has gone, I'm happy I did it sooner rather than later. Still plenty of riding weather left in this area. |

Coddy wrote: I wonder if they will get miffed at us stopping for petrol every 90 miles The fuel gauge starts the low fuel light with one bar showing. You can ride around twenty miles until the last bar goes out. I haven't tested it much past that but I have never put more than 2.1 US gallons into the 2.4 US gallon tank. Running at medium cruising speeds I have gotten as many as 150 miles out of a tank on my 2023 Vespa 300GTS HPE. Bill

My GTS with a full tank did exactly 99 miles in one straight line without stops heading west at continuous WOT from Parker towards Joshua Tree N.P. on the 2012 Cannonball.
Two-up (as Coddy seems to be doing)? 90 miles sounds about right. A slightly more leisurely pace might well go >110 miles, granted. |

Friday I transferred the registration on the new-to-me Vespa and took it out for its first legitimate ride. Met a lady on a Stella with a sidecar.
Also, I noticed a sound from the Vespa I hadn't heard with my full face helmet ... like a leaf caught in a blower motor. I think I narrowed it down to a rattle in the muffler. Fortunately I still have the original pipe from the Aprilia, which I think will be a fine fit. So, a little sanding and painting and I should be able to get that on the week. Somehow I became that guy that just so happens to have a spare pipe and muffler paint on hand. Also changed the oil in the Vespa. What came out didn't look good. But, 570 miles on the bike over nine years? I don't know what I expected. Gear oil this week, to be sure. ![]() Stella and a sidecar

Yesterday cheered me up.
A walk in the sun, A ride in the sun, A couple of hours talking bollocks with a Riding Instructor friend of mine and then a ride home to watch the Grand Prix while flipping between that and the Spa 24 hours. ![]()

$35 from Costco, charges from USB or solar, magnetic mount, so I can just stick it to the P's frame and it illuminates the interior like a champ! When you discover a reg hack that disables "Modern Standby" in Win11 which then allows access to all power plans and can then select high performance which then stops Windows from slowing down apps that are not currently in focus (cpu would drop from 100% down to 15%). eg Rendering a video would take 15mins if I watch the progress bar but if I switch to email then it takes over an hour. Friggn stupid.
(google for "Modern Standby" "PlatformAoAcOverride" to find method) |

The Fromagerie beneath my apartment in a pleasant central Porto location (we used to think it was a front for something because it never had any cheese) has closed and is now what appears to be an upscale brothel.
The signage says Spa outside, but during the hot weather, there have been both pretty girls and pretty boys sitting at a table outside (and they didn't look as if they were clients). |
