Tierney, Bill Dog,
I have posted before that good leadership is both refresing and hard to find. The best of various worlds is when you are both backed (even if things go wrong) and given authority to make decisions. I politely told one of my corporae bosses that "you pay me an awful lot of money to be your puppet". Why don't you just get out of the way and let me handle this. In contrast, I always gave my employees maximum latitude. You may have heard this management story to keep your boss from micro managing you. I goes as follows: Boss, you own the team, but I want you up in the spectator seats, not down here on the field. I am down here on the field to as coach to run things. If you don't like what I am doing get another coach. Good leadership - rare and refreshing. Bob Copeland |

We spent a couple days camping at Fallen Leaf Lake this week. Lows in the 30s, highs around 70F. The bears were out in force. My wife was walking the dog this morning and found herself 50ft from a 400# female black bear. Luckily no cubs were in tow. My wife grabbed her air horn and got the bear to change course. That was her first close up encounter with a bear and she kept her cool.
It was a mostly relaxing few days 😀 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Fallen Leaf was one of our favourites. After Covid seemed to give everyone the camping bug it's fully booked all the time, no hope for chancers like us.

I used to look forward to every shiny new issue of Mac Addict and the enclosed CD full of shareware and goodies. The "Staff Video" was always the icing on the cake.

$3.57!
So, I hate sending reusable stuff to the landfill, so save up scrap to take to the recycling center. I didn't really need a trailer, so loaded up the hatchback with everything Wednesday. Only on arriving at 3:08 did I discover they closed at 3 pm. So, sulked off with my load of rattling scrap, took it home to unload as I did not want to drive around for two days before I could get back. So, today I reloaded up and went early, only to find out they have a new minimum weight for payout for steel of 300#. (They donate proceeds for lesser to charity.) But I did get $3.56 for my aluminum! |

This is a little bit of "pissing me off" and "cheering me up."
First the pissing off part. It's graduation time at work, so we're having to work extra hours to get the programs printed for the graduation events. There are 40 high schools in our school district. Half of the schools are graduating today (Saturday) and tomorrow (Sunday). The other half are graduating next weekend. The schools have known about this event for over a year. They still wait until the last minute to submit their orders. One school even submitted theirs as a Word doc, instead of the required PDF, and of course the fonts dropped out and alignment got all wonky. I can understand designing it in Word, but save it out as a PDF with embedded fonts, it's not that hard. On the plus side, our work week is Friday through Thursday. I worked 3.5 hours of OT last week. I'm going no vacation next week to visit family in Wisconsin. The OT pay will be on the check that I will get next Friday, so it'll be gas money for the trip back to Texas. Yesterday I worked 6 hours over (7am-10pm, with a 1 hour lunch) . I got to work today at 7:30am, and will work another hour or two, possibly more. Even though I'm taking Thursday off, I'll still get OT, and I won't have to use a PTO day for Thursday. Plus I'll miss out on the mayhem of next week's graduation. |

The Cub 125 is a little jewel. I've always been impressed with the quality in the bike's details. Nothing looks cheap on them.
I've been seriously tempted by that model more than once. Congratulations. |

Goldly Locks Bike
1st one I looked at was a "London Bike". Locked up, left outside and not cleaned that often. I didn't get a good feeling about it. 2nd bike. Much better. Top case and screen and only 10,000 miles. Missing it's second service so 7500 miles without a service and used on highways daily. Na. 3rd bike. Dead owner. Bought new and ridden home 4 years ago. Not been ridden since. Liberated by my Dealer in a multiple buy. Deal done.

I imagine that the Covid induced camping bug will fade away. At least I'm hopeful. Camping culture is so different than it used to be. It used to be frowned upon to run a generator anytime of day in a campground. Now people run them all day long so they can sit in A/C and watch TV. For me camping is an opportunity to leave all that behind, hike, relax, read a book. Thankfully they don't allow generator use after 6pm in NP campgrounds. |

I think that I've been riding motorcycles too long as healing down to change down just feels a bit weird.
I'd much rather do it all with my foot left on the peg. |
