Just booked up to see a 25 Hour VW Fun Cup Race at Spa Francorchamp in a week or so.

I am an architect, designing houses and historic work in Jacksonville, with work as far away as Canada and Bermuda in the past.

I am nearing retirement, have been talking about it for years, but for now it is easier to keep working.

One project is an addition to a contributing structure in the historic neighborhood of Avondale in Jacksonville.

This neighborhood is protected by a historic district, with the Jacksonville Historic Preservation Commission deciding what work can be done to the houses.

This addition is a two story addition to the rear of the house, all in brick as the house is brick.

Almost everything was approved by the staff, but they balked at the owner's request to add a lime wash to the existing and new brick.

They also had some conditions that we didn't agree to, including a condition that we leave existing sidewalks unchanged, even though they were falling apart and dangerous for walking.

Adding anything to cover the brick in a historic structure is typically denied, but we had reasons, the most important was that the house had been built with a stucco exterior and the brick was added 30 years later, but I didn't have adequate proof.

So we found a report on the original building permit stating that the house was a "Two Story Frame and Stucco" house.

I also added a report from the National Park Service stating the benefits of lime wash on historic brick.

The homeowner came too, and she presented a strong argument as well.

When the staff member that wrote the original report for the work stated to the commissioners that he was satisfied with the new information, we got a unanimous approval!

It was one of the original requests from the owners and they truly want to have it on the brick.

I thought we were going to be denied, but the good work got us approval.

That made me happy.

Glad you like it. While I like cherries, I never have found anything cherry flavored that I like.

Except maybe actual cherries (in season).

Guilty of liking Maraschino cherries both the ice cream sunday topper and the Luxardo Manhattan variety.

Not a fan of the bright red Maraschinos. The Luxardo/Filthy/(forget the other one) variety are great, after a good long soak in a quality Manhattan.

Real, actual fresh cherries -- yeah, I'll plow through a bowl of those.

Nah. Yours ain't got a rack for a slab of beer. Heck, there isn't even a curry hook.

The best "maraschino" cherries I have found are "Bada Bing" cherries. Dark red and not in sweet syrup.

Perfect in a Manhattan or a Campari Canadian.

Stealth mode Super Cub, I like it. They only sold that color over here for 2 years.

This is the classic look, which I also like.

Each to their own of course but for me the Cub has those lovely classic lines and to hide that profile in matt paint and then bomb out the chrome kind of makes it look like a garage repaint job.

The Cub has the most amazing paint, lacquer and chrome which is probably the best I've seen on a 125 so why hide all those lovely two tone profiles with a Goth Job ?

I'm guessing that's why the Matte Gray Metallic only lasted 2 years?

I'm not sure if they switched to matt paint when the sales of the blue and red models tailed off or they just thought, lets give this a go.

For me Honda's have always been mostly red and shiny.

Today is the last day I work. Period. I just deleted the morning alarm on my phone.

Almost like..is the fuel turned on… but in reverse… too much fuel.

Also, I found once I retired, I was getting up before my alarm would have gone off before 6am. Not having to rush, make breakfast and get out the door by 6:30, I rediscovered early morning tranquility. And sometimes a nice scoot ride just to enjoy the best part of the day. Not too many people on the road at 5:30 and by the time I head back home, everyone else is going in the opposite direction so the traffic on my side is still light.

Oh, heck yes. I've got more than enough to keep me busy. Aside from the scooter there's an airplane to build, the yard needs attention, and vacations to plan. I'm sure SWMBO has plenty of plans for me as well, so there's trying to avoid all that.

Congrats, DaleB! As someone w/5 years of retirement under his belt, I'm here to tell you, it RAWKS! You really will start waking up 'cause you want to, not 'cause you have to. There really will be more to do than you now realize, and my daily nap is one of the best parts of my day! (Well, the nap AND riding one scoot or the other 😉.)

I'm up at 4am most days and out the door at 06.30 to walk a few miles to a Coffee Shop.

Back home for 9.30 and out for a ride for a few hours of a motorcycle or scooter with probably more coffee involved.

The afternoons are usually taken up with cleaning motorcycles, reading or listening to a podcast or making sarcastic comments.

At the weekends I become quite sociable.

Well done on making retirements, you'll probably get a huge list of "little jobs" to do now from her indoors!
