As neither the first nor last beverage of the outing, it was sized appropriately.

This!!! The head is NOT part of the measure, except for Guinness. The better glasses hold more than 20oz, with a line to show the 20oz pint level.

You should always insist on getting what you pay for!

You said one of my favorite words, Guinness! 😋 Even on one of my worst days a Guinness always delivers happiness. 🍻

More like 10-15% - those glasses are twice the area at the top than the bottom - and so losing 10-15% of what you pay for is OK by you? Quite apart from the money aspect, it's the cheating of customers that gets me. Any decent bar-staff will top it up if you even just glance at the missing liquid. In the more 'city' type pubs, if they spot a foreigner they might well take advantage.

It's got far more prevalent out here in CA as well. 16oz glasses with barely 14oz of beer in them. The tip goes south when that happens...

You'd be cheated (in your mind) far less if you just didnt go out at all, imagine the money you'd save!!

Like i said, there's far bigger things for me to be worrying about than 2 ounces of beer. I was due at Gaziano & Girling so they could see how my first commission is wearing in.

I spose everyone's different though. You're welcome to go tell them off on my behalf though, if it gives you sense of purpose.

Sure!

Doing some final mechanical preparations before heading out on a 4-5 week long ride at the end of this month. This worn rear tire was replaced today along with fresh oil and filter.

Harley engineers in the 1930s were on top of it. No need to remove/adjust the drive chain in order to remove the rear wheel. There are 5 lug bolts that hold the brake drum and chain/sprocket to the rear hub. Then the wheel just comes out the back. This kind of thinking that benefits the mechanic always cheers me up.

I usually go through 3 or 4 tires for each tube I use. They really don't suffer much wear unless you're running your tires under inflated. I just look for signs of chaffing and replace if I see that.

I'm not poo pooing your irons Sir but ever since this tire machine came into my possession my life has become more enjoyable and less profane. I still have my irons for in the field repairs. I also maintain 10 motorcycles.

I don't have the space for a dedicated machine. And since I'm only changing tires for me, it's not worth the cost. But if cost and space weren't an issue I'd definitely have one. I've changed literally thousands of motorcycle tires using spoons. I worked in shops for about 7 years (late 70s to the mid 80s) and it was a rare day when I didn't change at least one or two tires. Some days I probably changed 10+. I don't even break a sweat. It's all in the technique.

Our lawyers in Portugal received my Portuguese Resident card today. My wife received hers a year ago. That was the last hurdle in a 5-year project to gain residency in Portugal, and almost three years since we actually applied.

And while the wait and the various bureaucratic obstacles were sometimes excruciating to overcome, I am so happy that it is finally over.

And that's what's cheering me up today.

Jess -- congrats to you and your wife on receiving your Portuguese resident cards! I LOVE me some o Porto (when you're nearby, say howdy to the giant rubber ducky on the bridge for me!). I'd move my partner and me there in a heartbeat, but I'm afraid that, for us, age would be a mighty tough obstacle to clear. Bummer. And Lisboa ain't too shabby, either!

Muitas felicidades!

Thanks! Porto is in fact the city we have chosen to live, and we have been leasing a flat in the Boavista neighborhood for the last year or so. It's near Mercado Bom Successo.

I don't think age is necessarily much of a hurdle -- this is part of our long-term retirement plan -- but I will acknowledge that the effort required is pretty significant.

My wife and I initially did a two-week scouting tour on the Iberian Peninsula to get a feel for several of the candidate cities (Lisbon, Porto, Madrid). We thought Lisbon and Madrid were both amazing cities, but we agreed we probably didn't want to live in either of them. Porto, though, was interesting and comfortable and... less frenetic? Is that a thing? It certainly felt like a city we could live in. And so we decided to make it our own.

"Less frenetic" is most certainly a thing! One of the reasons I left L.A. for the desert some 18 years ago.

I could live in Porto quite happily!

Small thing, but sitting in a bus on an LA freeway watching guys lane splitting makes me happy. (It's a bit tidier than the Mexico City version I see more often).

It's just so smooth and efficient. I can't believe some of the online comments about it.

That won't work for Akront Morad rims. The hole is only big enough for the valve stem. If I screw this tool onto the valve stem, it won't fit through the hole. Good idea for rims with bigger holes though.

My mother died yesterday, peacefully, in her sleep. She was 106. When she was a little girl in the UK near Chester they had candles and gas lights and she spent her last years with an iPad.
A very happy ending. We should all be so lucky.

Yep, so happy to be a crowdstrike customer this morning. You gotta love it when the people you pay to protect your network are the one's that take it down. Only 1500 PCs left to fix...

Got an emergency automated phone call from my institution this morning, that there had been an "update".

I'm going to give all of my very not-Windows servers a little kiss on the forehead later on.

Sorry for your loss, Grunion...but it's wonderful that she was here among us for so long.

Can't really blame this one on Macrosloth, it was all Crowdstrike. It just happened to be the Windows version of their sensor that they screwed up.

Don't get me wrong, there's still lots we CAN blame Macrosloth for, just not this.
