I think a slightly more nuanced (or at least having a few more deets) take can be found at The Guardian:

Fair enough, but in this case you might want to read both and compare—I think more nuanced and detailed are fair descriptions here.

I read both and I agree. The Guardian had a more complete and detailed analysis of what ultimately is a fairly complex subject.

We call it "cat-square", that "Largo Torre Argentina" which have nothing to do with country Argentina as the name is after Strasbourg And why not, as Italians also say Müchen as "Monaco". And that torre: tower is not there anymore as that was not that tall and anyway other buildings got as tall.

Life has great moments. Cigars and rum in Rome. Just a suggestion. Get a shot of Brandy and dip the mouth end of the cigar in the Brandy while smoking it.

Thanks for sharing - wish I was there. You lucky soul.

Yes. I counted been in Italy 25 times, and 21 times with my wife.
And 15 times in Rome. 20 days last spring, 10 with wife and then another 10 alone, poor me!
Once we were 3 months, in 2016. it was nice to watch how spring progressed.
Of course plenty just everyday feelings too, like the one: we had at least 2 weeeks(3 diffrent cases) our apaprtments toilet stuck! The only times I have had use for bidet ;-D -and our "house cafe" had certain customers every day!
Me in Rome year 1972, the 3. time in Italy, I was 12.

Time for a sidecar and some reflection. Lots of inconveniences for us this go as we brought MIL along. I do enjoy her which seems to be rare these days, but LAWD she definitely has some health issues she needs to address before we bring her abroad again.

Next year being the Pope-a-palooza here in Rome calling for 50-80 MILLION people to visit, along with us moving halfway across the country, tells me Carnevale di Venezia will be our only trip back next year.

Though a good friend here suggested bringing groups over for 2-3 city tours. He happens to be one of the best guides in Rome, and knows some great colleagues in Firenze and Venezia.....so maybe a business opportunity in the future who knows.

Plenty to ponder as Mack the Knife plays and I sip on my sippycup in this spectacular throwback bar.

But all in all, a very happy fella having gotten to return to a spectacular country.

armedferret's post made me remember something from several weeks ago, while we were still in Portugal (we are back in California now, as of yesterday).

This was a specialty martini from a hip bar on a back street in a popular section of Porto. The ingredients change weekly, but this one had kimchi juice and essence of seaweed.

It was actually delish! Much better balanced than you might expect from those ingredients.

And though it is weeks later, this is cheering me up today.

Jess.

You really broaden my knowledge. I had no idea of what Kimchi Juice was.

Ingredients: Brine of fermented vegetables and spices (Chinese leaf cabbage, carrot, radish, spring onion, sea salt, gochugaru chile, garlic, miso (water, soybean, rice, salt alcohol) ginger, sugar.

All this in a martini with seaweed.

I guess I have just got to get out more.

Kimchi is a staple of Korean cuisine, and is served at very nearly every meal. It's fermented and spicy and a bit stinky all at the same time.

For those in the Bay Area (or willing to get it shipped from them) and interested in some interesting flavor combinations, more places are carrying Oakland's Dokkaebier [https://enjoydkb.com/], which has a lovely Kimchi Sour [https://enjoydkb.com/products/craft-beer-dokkaebier-kimchi-sour-ginger-gochugaru-1]. Assuming one is on board with both of those things anyways--I think almost everything they do is exciting and fun, my partner...not so much

The V-Strom I recently bought came with heated grips. It's the first time I've had something with heated grips--I've never seen the point and have not tried them. This morning I got up a little early and there was a little chill in the air; may as well...

It cheers me up that my wife has a retail-adjacent job, and has customers who bring her free stuff. Like the one customer who owns a vodka distillery and gave her a bottle of their product.

I'd look it up and provide a link, but I'm at work, so a distillery website is going to be blocked.

We haven't tried it yet, but are planning on doing so soon.

I happened to be driving through Downtown Dallas on my way home yesterday, so I took a pic of the (former) Texas Schoolbook Depository building as I approached it from the same direction as JFK back in '63.

You can see there's a box with a black circle in the center of it in the corner of the window. It disguises the live streaming HD webcam.

It's always been fascinated in a rather morbid way about how Dallas embraces being the site of JFK's assassination. There's a Women's Flat-Track Roller Derby team in the area called Assassination City. The aforementioned Lee Harvey's bar. The 6th Floor Museum. The Xs in the street marking where JFK was when the bullets hit. The seat in the Texas Theater where LHO was sitting. There are at least four different tours showing points of interest from that day.

I remember when my dad and I first moved to Dallas in 1982 -- He drove us through the route and narrated the series of events as we went through. It was a big deal for him, since he was alive during the assassination. I, being born a few years later, was not nearly as amazed to be on the spot where it all happened.

Also, I am reminded of Stephen King's reference in Tommyknockers to "The Dallas Police" as a stand-in for corrupt and/or inept authorities:
