Jimc, Veloce Vulture, Syd, Madison Sully and a few others. After much trial, tribulation, sips of bourbon, teaching the neighborhood kids a few new swears, and then ranting about the tweakers stealing the damn air hoses from gas stations rather loudly in a public place (also teaching some local youths new expressions of frustration) eventually these damn things are on.
The actual install on the scoot was straightforward as hell, so at least there's that. Ended up driving around with the wheels in the passenger footwell, heat on full blast to get them nice and toasty. Then it was just a matter of finding a gas station the tweakers hadn't hit yet, and thankfully everything's holding air nicely. (full disclosure, I took this photo while the rear was still dismantled, but I did get a helper eventually to hold the brake while I torqued some things down and took it for a quick shakedown just now and it seems gtg)

Bob Copeland wrote: Interesting fact: When dogs use to run free, they mostly chased all wild animals out of urban areas. With the introduction of leash laws (Dogs must be on a leash when out of the house), all form of wild animals are everywhere. I have had fox, raccoons, deer, possum, beaver, coyotes, (everything but a bear) in my backyard. The local police actually hunted and killed the coyotes who were jumping fences and killing small dogs. I was sitting in my garage with the door open smoking a cigar when a coyote walk by half way up the drive way. At first, I thought someone had left their dog out. When I realized it was a coyote, I exclaimed "Holy Shit" and went inside and got my pistol. Although, I do understand, from our local police, that a coyote would generally not attack or approach a full grown adult. The reason they were hunted and killed was due to the small dogs being killed and mothers concerned about their small children playing outside in the fence enclosed backyard unsupervised. That is the animal report from Lake Wobegon Minnesota. Bob Copeland

Weather cooperating for the most part, might have to pop out for a better shakedown to make sure all is well with the new rolling stock....

Am about a the point where I can share detailed info about the 'adaptive parameters' in the gts ecu.
In particular pretty maps showing how a it starts flat after resetting and then adjust across the valid range*. Just want to put a bit more mileage on before grabbing a new snapshot. * not a simple range, it's actual a map of tps vs rpm to enable

Somebody asked me to make an XDF for their GTS 300 2023 (+remus exhaust) so they could tune it on a dyno. I made one and sent it to them and the screenshot they sent back showed 29HP 💪

The ski season opens next week for me so I flipped the switch and called it officially "over" for my riding season today. I need to replace the main drive gear bushing and the main shaft in my old Harley-Davidson 4-speed transmission. I pulled the transmission out of the frame this morning and started this process. It requires complete disassembly of the transmission to service these parts. A good day of wrenching always cheers me up.
Primary cover removed.
Clutch and primary drive removed.
Empty place in the frame after removing the transmission.
Transmission secured to the workbench so I can start the disassembly.

I tore into that transmission work today. What was supposed to be a simple main shaft and bushing replacement just got about $500 more expensive
1st gear has been destroyed! I've never seen wear and pitting this bad on a 13 year old (75k mile) rebuild. But only on 1st gear. The rest look normal for the mileage. At least I found it now and not while I'm 2000 miles from home. That part cheers me up! Counter shaft 1st gear.
Main shaft 1st gear.

Found that i have over 50,000km of ride recordings in my app. Lost earlier stuff due to not having backups sorted. Scoot has done 63,000.

It's 7 degrees Fahrenheit above zero right now, with a daytime high this afternoon of 28 above, but tomorrow will hit 60 degrees with clear skies and little wind.
Out will come the two-wheelers tomorrow for an afternoon of early December riding. I will almost certainly mount up on something and head to Deadwood at 11:00 for coffee, an orange/cranberry muffin, and a chat with whatever old biker scum also manages to show up. Then, a brisk ride home, taking 'the long way' via Nemo Road for an unseasonally pleasant 50 mile run through the mid-section of the Black Hills. It looks like this....just minus most of that green stuff this time of year... |

It would be interesting to know if it wasn't a manufacturing defect what caused it. |

It would be interesting to know if it wasn't a manufacturing defect what caused it. This morning I checked all the bushing and bearing tolerances. Everything is in spec except the counter shaft end play. The spec is 0.007-0.012" and I measured it at 0.015". I can't see how that could cause this damage though. |
