Does your wife let you back in the house on the weekends?

I ran into my kids now retired primary school principal last year. He's driving busses (but otherwise quite normal). Apparently there's only so many weeds you can pull out of the garden. Find meaningful things to occupy yourself.

My wife is still working second shift at the blood Bank (She's a microbiologist). I still get up around 5:00 - 6:00 am everyday and get her breakfast, pack her a dinner and do all the cooking and cleaning around here. Laundry is still a mystery to me, but between taking care of the house and all the cars (mine and my kids, 6 total) I volunteer at various places and I hope to do more when I heal up.

I've pretty much taken over breakfast already (that and
working part time. What an overachiever! Razz emoticon ) To be fair, she does man the toaster oven most days and whip up oatmeal one day a week. I seem to have a penchant for unpopular cleaning tasks like cleaning and organizing dark corners of the house like under the bathroom vanity. Gives me weird satisfaction.

I'm giving myself January to lie about, read and do a jigsaw puzzle or two, then take a look at volunteering opportunities around town. First stop is our local Literacy Council, which is located at the library...side benefit is peeking in on my wife in the Children's Department. Anything you've found particularly rewarding, Tierney?

We have a local thrift shop run by volunteers with all the proceeds going to Disabled Vets. Most of the people there are vets or family of. I just work at fixing up older donated machines for them - mostly lawnmowers. edgers, pressure washers - anything with a small engine, and to be honest, most are pretty simple fixes. They are a great group of people. I'm really just getting back to it after a few months of post surgery, so there is quite a backlog. This place is by far where I feel I can do the most good, and I really enjoy being around this group, even though I am not a vet myself.

I finished up the transmission rebuild this morning. Got it back in the frame and ready for a test ride. Unfortunately it's snowing here today, so I'll postpone the test ride for another day. Cheers me up to have this project wrapped.

That is a little bit more impressive than me finding a bolt at Lowe's to replace one that fell out of the swing arm of my Xmax.

It cheered me up today to speak to an old friend I was in the Navy with. 53 years ago. We reconnected three years ago and he came out from Boston and we spent a week together. Some old friends are down to earth quality timeless. The measure maybe they gave more in life helping others.

Old friends are cheering me up.

Today I mastered two skills in one go: cooking eggs in a carbon steel pan, and making J. Kenji LΓ³pez-Alt's origami egg sandwich, which I have tried a couple times but only with limited success.

I changed a few things and got a much better result. I made it with only one egg and one slice of cheese. On one side, I placed the muffin directly on the still-wet egg in the pan, and on the other side I placed one slice of ham, one slice of cheese, and then the muffin. Theoretically, all of those items should stick to each other and give it some structural integrity.

And then finally I used a long, thin spatula to get under the muffins and do the all-important flip.

I'm happy with the result. And that is cheering me up today.

Since it was snowing here yesterday, I didn't get to take the bike out for a test drive when the transmission rebuild was complete. Today broke sunny and the roads are clear so I jumped on it. The transmission performed perfectly. Up and down shifts were smooth. I also made a change to the clutch release geometry in order to lighten the pull of the clutch lever. I've been having my left hand cramp when in traffic from the force needed to pull the clutch lever. After making a change to the clutch release arm, I can pull and hold the clutch with one finger! That really cheered me up!! πŸ˜ƒ

I forgot to congratulate Fledermaus on his retirement. Dave, best to you. Your staff making up that "Scooting off to retirement" says a bunch about how great a guy you are. Although, I know you are a great guy because I ride with you.

That sandwich looks fantastic! I think I was 19 when this roach coach would stop by my work. The lady made the most incredible bacon, egg and cheese sandwich. It must have been the grease on the grill or something but I've never been able to duplicate it. It also came with a huge pickled jalapeΓ±o chili that tasted great but hurt my stomach. Worth it though. πŸ˜‰ Thanks for sharing your food porn.

I wish I could! The mousetrap would have solved this problem. My frame has been modified right where the mousetrap needs to be mounted so I can't use one unless I redesign the frame modification.

I love the mechanical engineering of the mousetrap. I even have this old OEM mousetrap on the shelf.

Absolutely! It's these mods that differentiate a garage built bike from a bike with accessories added. And the result is a machine that fits the rider perfectly.

I would welcome a redesign. I think there is a lot of potential in the Magic Mouse, but that potential has been squandered by poor design choices and institutional dysfunction.

But the sensitivity of the top surface will probably always be an issue. I doubt there's a solution to that issue that doesn't compromise some other aspect of its use.

That hypersensitivity really pisses me off, especially when trying to create laser projects. xTool's canvas is touchy to begin with, and trying to move the cursor just a tad is an exercise in frustration. I don't see a change from either party, so I live with it.

Otherwise, the mouse is pretty good. The charging port isn't a problem for me. I just plug it in and do something else for a half hour, and it's charged up.

It's actually the opposite of hypersensitive. The sensitivity of the top surface has been dialed way down, and multiple algorithmic filters are in place to help alleviate the fact that your finger is being used on a touch surface for something other than touch (namely clicking). Those filters dull the sensitivity of the top surface a lot -- it's just not enough to alleviate the fundamental conflict between clicking and scrolling.

Thanks for the clarification. I have no trouble with the clicking, but getting a small movement in scrolling is tricky. Still in all, it's a pretty good product, and I like the wireless feature. I've thought of going back to a clunky old mouse, but that would be negative progress, and besides, all of my USB ports are occupied.

Ironically, that might actually be the filters that I mentioned. In order to prevent small finger movements from inadvertently triggering scroll, you have to first get past an initial threshold of physical movement before scrolling kicks in.
