Congrats Fledermaus! Don't worry about going back to work. You'll soon wonder why you didn't leave earlier!

My wife is still working second shift at the blood Bank (She's a microbiologist). I still get up around 5:00 - 6:00 am everyday and get her breakfast, pack her a dinner and do all the cooking and cleaning around here. Laundry is still a mystery to me, but between taking care of the house and all the cars (mine and my kids, 6 total) I volunteer at various places and I hope to do more when I heal up.

What an overachiever! ) To be fair, she does man the toaster oven most days and whip up oatmeal one day a week. I seem to have a penchant for unpopular cleaning tasks like cleaning and organizing dark corners of the house like under the bathroom vanity. Gives me weird satisfaction. I'm giving myself January to lie about, read and do a jigsaw puzzle or two, then take a look at volunteering opportunities around town. First stop is our local Literacy Council, which is located at the library...side benefit is peeking in on my wife in the Children's Department. Anything you've found particularly rewarding, Tierney?

We have a local thrift shop run by volunteers with all the proceeds going to Disabled Vets. Most of the people there are vets or family of. I just work at fixing up older donated machines for them - mostly lawnmowers. edgers, pressure washers - anything with a small engine, and to be honest, most are pretty simple fixes. They are a great group of people. I'm really just getting back to it after a few months of post surgery, so there is quite a backlog. This place is by far where I feel I can do the most good, and I really enjoy being around this group, even though I am not a vet myself.

I finished up the transmission rebuild this morning. Got it back in the frame and ready for a test ride. Unfortunately it's snowing here today, so I'll postpone the test ride for another day. Cheers me up to have this project wrapped.

It cheered me up today to speak to an old friend I was in the Navy with. 53 years ago. We reconnected three years ago and he came out from Boston and we spent a week together. Some old friends are down to earth quality timeless. The measure maybe they gave more in life helping others.
Old friends are cheering me up. Bob Copeland

Today I mastered two skills in one go: cooking eggs in a carbon steel pan, and making J. Kenji LΓ³pez-Alt's origami egg sandwich, which I have tried a couple times but only with limited success.
I changed a few things and got a much better result. I made it with only one egg and one slice of cheese. On one side, I placed the muffin directly on the still-wet egg in the pan, and on the other side I placed one slice of ham, one slice of cheese, and then the muffin. Theoretically, all of those items should stick to each other and give it some structural integrity. And then finally I used a long, thin spatula to get under the muffins and do the all-important flip. I'm happy with the result. And that is cheering me up today.

Since it was snowing here yesterday, I didn't get to take the bike out for a test drive when the transmission rebuild was complete. Today broke sunny and the roads are clear so I jumped on it. The transmission performed perfectly. Up and down shifts were smooth. I also made a change to the clutch release geometry in order to lighten the pull of the clutch lever. I've been having my left hand cramp when in traffic from the force needed to pull the clutch lever. After making a change to the clutch release arm, I can pull and hold the clutch with one finger! That really cheered me up!! π

Otherwise, the mouse is pretty good. The charging port isn't a problem for me. I just plug it in and do something else for a half hour, and it's charged up. |

Thanks for the clarification. I have no trouble with the clicking, but getting a small movement in scrolling is tricky. Still in all, it's a pretty good product, and I like the wireless feature. I've thought of going back to a clunky old mouse, but that would be negative progress, and besides, all of my USB ports are occupied.

Dessert at lunch was a chocolate creme brulee with a liter and a half or thereabouts of whipped cream, along with some gold flake so my doodie sparkles later.
