Last year, I rode the my GTS from my home in the Netherlands to the Swiss, Italian and Austrian Alps. And back of course.

I liked it so much, that it didn't take long to decide to do another camping trip this year. But this time, I'll be riding to the French Alps, skinny dip the Mediterranean and ride back through France, Italy, Switzerland and Germany.

For now I'm counting down to June (the high altitude passes are all closed until end of May/beginning of June due to snow). But I thought I'd share my plans already!
That's a lot of 2,000 meter plus summits.

That trip sounds absolutely amazing. Wish I could be a bird on your shoulder and see all the sights. I will look forward to your photo posts of this adventure.

I was fortunate to drive much of that route (but, alas - not on two wheels).
I covered it in my Fiat 500 many many moons ago.

Good fortune to you.

Well, at least it had a flip back rag sun roof.

In 2018 I took similar route on my motorcycle, except Milan was the destination. In spite of mostly wet and cold weather it was one of the nicest trips I've ever taken. Ate nice meal with carbonated red wine in Hotel Restaurant Le Coquelicot Logis à Burnhaupt Le Haut in France. They put my bike in heated garage over night. Broke up the trip with couple of days in Airbnb apartment near Lake Como, when the weather forecast for France was really bad. Saw the Moto Guzzi museum and had a nice meal in La Pizzeria-Trattoria Rosalba, a packed Italian restaurant where no one understood English. I had to use Google translate on the menu. On the way back I was nearly frozen to the bone when I stopped at Hotel - Landgasthaus zum Hirsch in Germany, who also placed my bike inside a garage. What's better than Schnitzel and beer in a German restaurant, knowing you'll be home tomorrow?

I'm excited to follow this new adventure of yours. The previous trip was very enjoyable (from my perspective). Bon Voyage!

Wow! Nice one
And cool plan to go all the way down to the mediterranead for a dip and back
I am starting planning my move to the UK, so I will be also doing a long ride with the Vespa at some point...

One question, do you ride on the motorways? I got my GTS300 not too long ago and I am struggling with the idea of riding in the motorways... I have been in national roads with high speed limits, so I have made it up to 110km/h for a short while.
I am south from you, in Belgium and, you know, potholes and bumpy roads are a national treasure in this country! What The? emoticon

I am looking forward to hearing more about your next long trip!

The French Alps are stunning, and you'll love the ride through France. The Mediterranean is perfect for a dip, especially after those mountain roads. Check out some of the small towns in France and Italy. They have incredible food and really welcoming people. I did a similar trip a couple of years ago and found the view amazing, especially in Switzerland.
Last summer, I stayed at the Westgate in Branson, and it was a nice break from camping. The facilities were great, and having a comfy bed for a few nights felt good. It's a good spot to unwind if you're ever in Missouri.

A quick update on this trip.

I cancelled it. I started the trip beginning of June, but I just didn't get into the flow. Last year, when I rode through the Alps for almost two weeks, I enjoyed the heck out of it. But this year, it just didn't work and I just wanted to be with my wife.

So after 2,5 days traveling south, I decided to turn around and ride home.

Sorry, maybe better next year!

Too bad you had to pull the plug but sometimes you just have to do what feels right.

I'm not sure, it all depends on when my wife and I are going to plan other trips on our wish list. The only times when I fancy a trip like this are June and September (because: high Alpine passes are open and the July/August holiday traffic is absent).

Also, I'm not sure if I'm going to try France again. I like Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Italy a lot more.

So, time will tell!
