Hi all.

Scoot seems to run just fine.

I'm pretty sure I've got at least one (if not more) electrical faults somewhere in my scooter that is impacting the odometer panel in my 2014 GTS 300. I know this because the lights (in the odometer panel) are not working properly. Also, the cooling and fuel gauges no longer work. The speedometer and odometers seem to be working just fine.

It is not a fuse, as I've changed out ALL the fuses.

So I know I have to now take her apart and go hunting to try and find what I'm assuming is a broken wire?

Has anyone else had to do this, and if so, what tips and tricks can you share? Now that it's getting warmer here, I can plan on taking it apart and trying to fix this. My nearest legit vespa place is over 2 1/2 hours away, and I don't want to take that long a ride with cooling and fuel gauges that aren't working properly.

One last thing: I'm not sure I understand how to read the electrical wiring map, and this might be part of my challenge, so if you have tips for that as well, I'd be grateful!

1. make sure you've got the correct one. different diagrams for different 300s. in particular for your era I mean no-ABS and with ABS.

2. use the biggest hires monitor you've got access to and trace your finger along the lines

3. There should be a key on the side of the diagram explaining the abbreviations that are the colours in Italian often two abbreviations joined together for a wire with a stripe. eg AzBi means Sky Blue (Az) with White (Bi) - not sure which is stipe and which is main colour.

it's likely just a loose or corroded connection. but you'll still have to take it apart and run it down.

a test lamp (one with a ground indicator) is a great tool along with a digital multimeter that has an audible function for continuity.

as steelbytes said, having the correct diagram is paramount. I like to print it off and use colored pencil or marker and highlight the section I'm working on.

The first one is the main colour, the second is the stripe.

But this being Piaggio, do NOT count on the colours on your bike actually matching the circuit diagram...
