Does anyone know if the variator assembly from a pre HPE 300 will work on the new HPE 300. I know the weights are different but is anything else different? The parts numbers for the assemblies are different but that could just be to account fore the different weights. I only ask because I have a brand new one in the box from my old scooter that I never needed. If it won't work I will sell it.

Thanks

Brian

My dealers said no as I have a spare from previous cannonball supplies and asked if it fit.

iirc the belt is also a different part number so I don't have confidence. but also I think malossi kept the same parts from pre-hpe to hpe so ...

Yes, it will work, unless your goal is to sell someone a more expensive variator. The main thing Piaggio did was to install a bushing with a slightly smaller outside diameter, so they had to use a circlip to make it stay inside the old aluminum casting, but the inner diameter of the bushing and length is the same. It looks like the changes Piaggio made were primarily to sell a more expensive variator. If you look at all the Performance variators that were around before the HPE came out, the main change that was made to all of them was changing the list of models they fit to include the HPE.
The new variator is the old variator changed just enough so you can't use parts from the old one to repair it.

That piece of advice from Motovista is the kind of thing that makes me buy from him exclusively whenever I need parts.
