Hallo,

ìm new in this forum and i have a yellow Vespa GTS 250 with ABS.

I have a problem with the ABS, so i didnˋt get the german TÜV.

A friend gave me a fault code reader. I got the codes 4100 and 4300, but i dońt have a list with the codes.

Can somebody tell me something about these codes or has somebody a complete list of the codes?

Regards Eddy

These are probably generic fault codes. You have to plug it to an official diagnostic tool at a Piaggio dealer. But given the problematic nature of the specific model, it's probably the ABS unit which had a tendency to fail quite often and is also now a discontinued part...

Moin mein Lieber,

Wo genau kommst Du her?

Hey!

Where exactly do you come from?

As already mentioned, the problem is that the ABS control unit is no longer available as new. There are instructions on how to deactivate the ABS and how to get through the TÜV legally.

Have a look at the German forum: https://www.vespaforum.de/

Is there an alternative?

If it is a defective ABS control unit: used, repair or remove. As the model was also available without ABS, it is probably still possible to meet the strict German requirements (TÜV). However, I have no personal/practical experience with this, hence the link to the German forum.

No. The ABS unit (and the speedometer) were unique to this model and both failed over time...

You can't even find them used. Bypass and convert to standard disc brakes...

Repair is an option but depends. I had a customer a few years back who decided on his own to have it repaired. It lasted 6 months...

You seem to know all about it.

I was reading the Italian wiki page on the Vespa GTS 250ie. https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Piaggio_Vespa_GTS
It says the model was launched in 2005 in a version with and without ABS. Apparantly the version with ABS had a combined front and rear braking system.

But in 2009 the production of the version with ABS was stopped, so I expect then there was only the version without ABS left.

And the 250ie was replaced by the 300ie in 2011, launched to the market in 2012.

The fact that the ABS unit for this 250ie model was unique, does that have anything to do with this combined front and rear braking?

Yes, it was a complicated system, combined of a control unit / pump and two pressure regulators, one for each brake master cylinder / caliper. Also, a bitch to bleed...

Last time the ABS unit was available it was going for 1k €...

Here's a post from vespaforum, you can see the unit on 2nd pic...

Well i've got a new Cableharness for a 250/300 without abs in stock

you will need a non ABS ECU tho, or let you own one reprogrammed as a non ABS otherwise it won't start
easiest way
Trying to find out which cables to connect so your stock ecu thinks he's still talking to a non exciting ABS pump is also an option

Maybe that Stefan Nieberg from Pedalo 3PPP Drossle shop .de can help you with re-progaming i know he made mp3 Yourban 300 in to a 500cc with TUV

also got as a set a USED old cableharness with some work for a 2005 abs with 2005 abs pomp and some lines that should work pump isn't burnt up only sold as a set

I bought the harnessed t for a member here he was over in the Netherlands bought 2 then one in italy and the last one from SIP Deutschland
the italian one came to late so still in sdtock and the gts that i bought for him did keep getting problems with the engine is a 2005 with less then 10.000km on it so it did dry rotted
So he traveled with one of my Fuoco's through netherlands belgium and Deutschland

Hi, thanks for the answers.
I looked into the dismantling option. A wiring harness would not be necessary. You just have to connect the appropriate cables from the connector that leads to the ABS. If requested, Vespa will issue a clearance certificate (because the ABS control unit is no longer available) so that the ABS can be removed. I found various companies that can repair the modulator. The prices vary from €423 to just under €1000. I slept on it for a few nights and decided to invest the €423. The costs for the renovation should not be significantly lower. In that respect it fits quite well.
