Hey Austinites, I'm visiting your town for the week of sxsw and am bringing my bike with me. Are there any particular things to know about getting around Austin on a scoot? I've been there a couple times but this will be my first chance to explore on a bike. I love the countryside around there and would love to hear about any especially scenic routes or must visit places. If anyone wants to hang out or ride that'd be great. I'm so ready to hit the road! Also what's up with these tawny ants?!?!?!

West of Austin to the hill country is great. Stop by a bike shop in Austin and get a specific "Motomap of the hill country " these are maps for bikers that show specific places/interests for motor cyclist ( and Scooterist). Very scenic views and a motorcycle museum awaits you. Lots of great places to eat and stay. I used to like closer to New Braunfels ( south of Austin), the gateway to the hill country ! Enjoy!

Thanks for the tips! I'm driving down from Kansas, stopping in the Wichita mountains wildlife reserve for a night and hopefully a bike ride, then on to Austin. Last time I was down there I mainly hung out in east Austin listening to bands all day and night. Super fun. I'm camping at Emma long metro park for a couple days. Looks like the area you're talking about is pretty accessible from there. Can't wait.

Ok I'm gonna check out the twisted sisters. I just hope I don't get run over by a sport bike.
