Happy Leap Day!! Especially to those people who were actually born on the 29th. I have a good friend who was and he always brags about how young he is!
On NPR today, the current host stated that Julius Caesar gets the blame for leap years. I think differently. Say you just fell in love, wouldn't you like it to last a day longer?
Or say your Doc tells you you have a month or so to live. Wouldn't it be nice to have another day?
My mother told me that when her due date was approaching, the OB gave her delivery day options of 2/28, 2/29, or 3/11. She asked why there was such a huge gap between the 29th and the 11th, and was told that he was going on vacation.
She didn't want to wait until the 11th, and felt that choosing the 29th was cruel, so she went with the 28th. As an adult, I'd be totally ok with the 29th, but can understand her reasoning. I can see how a child might be disappointed by having their birthday appear only once every 4 years. And I can see how resentment could have built toward my mother had I known that she chose the 29th.
It's a moot point, though.
Although, having my birthday on the 28th means I do get lots of comments about potentially having been born on Leap Day.
