I had a warped clutch drum which made strange noises and sometimes made the start a bit jerky. Some vibration which shook the rear end. I rode the bike for a few kilometres trying to see if it would bed in, I tried grinding the friction face with a scotchbrite pad in an attempt to smooth out the surface but it was a lost cause, Scooterwest (I think it was) sold me a replacement and fortunately the clutch looked almost new so I reused it. Very smooth now.
I would be doubtful if your rattle is in the gas tank? How did you determine it is the tank? All of the mechanical stuff is in the same location so difficult to isolate...Have you removed the green sleeve from your tank filler mouth? That allows for a better look inside the tank...
