So, picked up this ratty looking '84 PX200 for cheap cheap. Any old Vespa in Australia at the moment is selling for crazy money so was refreshing to grab this barn (shed) find. Patina is perfect, so plan is to keep the paint/bodywork "as is" and do a bit of a mechanical rebuild. Plan is to...

- Rebuild engine with
- new bearings and seals
- new SIP 200 aluminium top end with
- SIP 60mm 125/-5 crank
- SI24/24
- used SITO plus exhaust (wanna keep that ratty look and love the SITO sound)
- replace cables, hoses, etc...

Question is how to set up the barrel, I'll need assistance with the measuring of ports and figuring out of base (or head) gaskets.

Yeah, should be running by then easily. I believe it's got new rings at 35k kms and that's it but no idea why it has that decal on there, old school cool!!

Haha!! I doubt it, but that's where I come in with the subtle rebuild. If that doesn't suffice I always have this...

Classy patina on that P series barn find. Good opportunity for polishing her up. Personally I'd try some gentle wire-wheel + brass-brush action on the worst of the rust (glove box?) and then stabilize those spots with phosphoric acid. But the frame's paint will buff out beautifully.

Finally got time to start looking at my rat... engine out, it'll get a rebuild later but looking at a new loom. So this one has a battery but looking at looms on SIP not sure which will be the best one to order. I'm thinking about this one...

https://www.sip-scootershop.com/en/product/wiring-loom-217897_86100000?usrc=Wiring%20Loom

So, deleting battery and going to simple 3 wire regulator and 2 wire stator which I'm just used to. Will it be as straight forward as just changing the loom over and swapping stator and regulator? What about the igniton switch?
engine out!!

On another note, I've bought the SIP 200 aluminium kit but heard not so great things about them... has anyone had experience with them?
Well, the dirt does go with the rat look?

Nice rats !

Yes my engine is a Px200 stock. I have a Polini 210 (the new one) and an exhaust for it but did not install them yet. When I rebuilt the engine I did put a reinforced cosa clutch but no other mod.

In Belgium you have to pass a tech control in order to register , they are very critical and that is why the engine was rebuilt stock.

Great Find.
I would love to find something like this.
If it was me i would restore/modify all the running gear, treat any major rust if any and leave the body looking exactly as it is....
Love It.....
Good Luck with everything...

So engine all rebuilt with new everything, standard top end, GS piston, new 24SI carb, old SITO plus that I had on the shelf. I ended up replacing with a new loom from a MY98 vespa as it seemed difficult to get the exact specific model for this scooter. So now the only things that don't work are the warning lights on the dash and the fuel gauge. With no lights on, the high beam and indicator dash lights stay on, when I turn the lights on (either park/low beam) the warning lights go off. When I indicate the warning light only works when the headlights aren't on!! haha!! oh well, I guess I'll have to try n suss that out another day, once I figure out how. I hate wiring.

But, all the lights work and indicators, stop light, so that's a plus.

SITO plus bolted on, gives the right sound for an 80s scoot. Sneaky shot of the rego plate, ready to ride for reals!!
