Hey gang, it's been a while since i've been here.
I was looking at my 180 ss rear brake area. Removing the hub, there was oil everywhere. In there is a blueish, Corteco seal (30x40x7). Is this the right size for my bike? There seems to be a good size gap between the inner diameter and the shaft, is this normal? I've included a pic . You can see a beed of oil at the bottom of the seal. Any advice would be great. Thanks

According to the parts diagram your seal is the correct one. You could just need a new seal. Check the inside of the hub and make sure the sealing surface is good and it's close to 30mm diameter. If your bearing is worn it could cause the seal to leak as well. One other spot is the threads on that bearing retaining nut. Not sure if they need a thread sealing compound or not. If you don't drain the gear oil before taking off the hub it usually will drain some oil out there.

Bajabob. Thanks for the reply. I didn't think of inspecting the inside of the hub. So basically, if I measure the diameter of the inside of hub, it should be 30mm? Maybe the hub is just work out, as well as the seal?
I didn't realize either..i had the hub off while kicking over the engine (with full oil in crankcase) and saw the oil come out. Doh! I guess the hub needs to be on there...
Thanks

I took a pic of the hub. I took a set of calipers and it measured at 30mm at the top part of inner hub. I did notice a visible Groove (but was smooth to the touch), near the too of the inner hub (marked in red). There was also another one near the bottom (marked in green) but i could also feel a kinda raised lip at the base of the hub (below green mark). Is this normal? I think it's the original hub as well.

I have the same style of hub for my GS 150. So far I haven't been able to locate a new one. Mine is still good so far but would be nice to have the option. You definitely have wear on yours but maybe it will still work by putting on a new seal. Be sure to use some grease on the lips of the seal before sliding the hub back on. Looks like SIP is out of stock on your seal and they don't offer a replacement hub either. You should be able to find your seal with a Google search or from a different parts retailer.

Baja...it seems like a hub for the 180 is tough to find, unless it was interchangeable with other models??
I will try changing out the seal and see how that works out. Thanks again for the info.
Just a thought...if the front hub is interchangeable with the rear, maybe i should try swapping them? Might that help?

Not sure if your hubs are interchangeable but the front hub uses the same seal. That would be great if they did. You should check that out.
