Do you have a route planned? How will you break up the 600mi, or will you just bang it out in one day?
The best route to Minnesota from here would be to ride SD highway 34 Eastward from Sturgis all the way to the SD capital of Pierre. This highway is relatively sparely traveled and speeds aren't excessive. Then continue Eastward on hwy 14 into Minnesota, or go a bit north after Pierre and connect with SD hwy 212 and take it all the way to Minneapolis.
I'm not going to try and 'have to make it' in one 600 mile slog, though if the weather is good and I still feel ok enough physically, It's might be possible, and would be an epic run on a Vespa scooter and all that, but I just want to have a good time
I would intend to certainly travel at least 400-450 miles on day one, then stop for the night in western Minnesota, and start early on day two and run the remaining 150-200 miles on the day of the DGR.
I would have a coffee with my brother in St. Paul while in town, and would really like to be able to visit a Vespa dealership while in Minneapolis.
I MIGHT even get to meet our own Bob Copeland if the planets align just right while I'm passing through the southwestern 'burbs' of Minnie-Snapolous' (as Casey Jones and Roundhouse Rodney used to call it... Bob C might get this reference).
That's a lot of stuff to do in a three or four day scooter Odyssey, but I'll get as much of it done as I can.
I just hope my drive belt doesn't do anything stupid out on the road, but as a possible necessity, I'll have my wife 'Sparky' poised back at home with the F-150 at the ready to scramble on a moment's notice.
