I have a 2001 ET2 that someone tried to steal a couple days ago and they b0rked the ignition internals in the process.

Through some miracle, I was able to get the key to turn enough to unlock the column, so at least it can be rolled, but now it's stuck at "OFF" and is unrideable.

I need to replace the ignition cylinder and I'm wondering what the cheapest and/or best way would be to go about things if I want to continue using the immobilizer system.

The scoot was used and only came with one black key. Do I have any options beyond replacing the ignition cylinder with an OEM set that includes a brown key?

Would I be able to get a transponder key shell and transfer the chip to that, or would the cylinder come programmed to those specific keys?

Thanks so much for your knowledge and wisdom! ☺️

I "think" (BICBW) that your bike doesn't have an immobiliser, so just replacing the lockset should set you up just fine.

But, as above, I Could Be Wrong.

An et2 should not have an immobilizer system.
The issue is what else got broken. Is the green switch at the back okay?
This should have just about everything you need, as long as the tube the tumbler fits in wasn't broken

And you will likely need one of these, but most people get two, because they are remarkably easy to lose, and it's easier to put one in after you've learned how not to lose them the first time, and a lot less time consuming than removing the glove box and floorboard only to figure out that it flew somewhere across the room.

If you need just the key set, these are about as cheap as you are going to find, and the only difference is the keys, which are probably easier to carry around.

LOL @ myself. πŸ˜†

Well, okay then! Thank you for letting me know definitively; that does simplify things, though I did really want an immobilizer. 😜

I haven't gotten in there yet, but I'm hoping the damage is contained to the cylinder. Thanks for the links and info, as well! Super helpful and I appreciate it. 🫢

If you have an immobilizer and someone tries to steal the scooter to the point they are hotwiring it, they often destroy the wiring harness, plastics and anything else they can hook together to try and make it run. If you don't have an immobilizer, the police often recover the bike after it runs out of gas, or goes down, or they see someone riding around on it and run the tag.

One more question, if I may β€” the key works in the lock now that the barrel has been removed, does that mean my lock mechanism is actually okay?

I got the ignition out and it doesn't look like there's any damage behind the lock barrel (would it be obvious?).

I had to add oil to the tumbler clip in order to get it out because like everything else on this bike, it hasn't been touched in 20+ years. I added a bit of oil to the key, as well, to get some oil into the internal parts.

The key works, as in I can get it to go to each position without problem and the key can be removed in "Lock" and "Off". It also spins all the way around, but I assume that's because there's nothing stopping the doodad at the end, that would normally fit into a slot when installed.

Thanks so much! I really appreciate the help and knowledge. 🫢😊
