So I changed the crank in my 77 P200E with an aftermarket crank [https://www.scooterwest.com/p-px200-crank-shaft-stock-crankp200-1.html].

Everything felt fine until I got the engine case buttoned up, but then it developed a tight spot in engine rotation. I pulled it back apart (OMG was it tough getting it to let go from the main bearing), and noticed that it seems to be rubbing on the engine case (see pics). I see where some coating is missing from the lip on the counterweight/valve and also some patina missing from the engine case.

So my questions are:
- What's going on here?
- Is this crank out of true?
- Did I somehow bork the alignment on the main bearing?
- Is this a manufacturing defect?
- A result of shipping?
- Do all cranks need trued before installation?
- Do I just not sweat this because it will loosen up with a little time?
- Do I not sweat this because it's within expected tolerance for this bike?

I know, a lot of questions. Thanks in advance for any help anyone can offer.[/url]

I can only think a faulty crank or the bearings are not properly seating. They may look on bare eye that they are well installed but they could have a degree or two off. Also the bearings itself(internally) could have too much play(even new) thus causing the crankshaft to "oscillate" in a wavy motion. Again, you might not pick it with naked eye but once you bottom everything up any slight play may manifest inside in the form of friction. That is what I am thinking.

One for three to make two (VBB -->> plaid) (Post 2574382)

excellent link on checking right here ^

you can follow my adventures in crank truing by going a bit earlier on that same page of the thread and following into the next page of the thread

Nothing to lose by checking the true, and it's not that hard.
