I'm curious, if Piaggio plans to build a 310cc powered Vespa, why still produce a 300 (278cc) Vespa?

If they did bump the displacement to 310, offering both in the same market certainly doesn't make much sense.

How did you come up with that?

the pricelist on the dutch website has both listed side by side ...

As always with Vespa/Piaggio: the old models (with Euro 5) will remain listed alongside the new product as long as they are available on the market. To conclude from this that both products will be offered permanently is nonsense.

I think a 310cc 'performance' version of the GTS would be great. To me, missing from the line up has been for some time a performance version--as opposed to what for the most part are just basic cosmetic variations.

It seems naturally complementary to a 278cc line up when possibly the only change is a revised piston, stroke and ECU map. Pragmatic from a logistics and engineering perspective, but very healthy for the lineup.

But, assuming it really is a 310cc, they might only be aiming to maintain (HP) performance for Euro 6?

As I understand it, typically to meet more stringent emissions controls this requires reducing combustion pressures, in turn reducing power unless capacity is increased... A bit of a waste of time in my view as overall emissions don't really fall.

Yes, the 310cc engine will be Euro5+ compliant (at least in Europe, necessary by 2025), Euro 6 is not yet available for motorcycles.

Euro5+ does NOT differ from Euro 5 in terms of exhaust emission values, only the maximum volume is reduced and a permanent test of the function of the exhaust-relevant components during operation and standardized readout interfaces are required.

Note: The power/torque of the new Primavera/Sprint 125 MY24 has not been reduced, but is now available at lower revs (less revs, less noise). The torque has even increased slightly. The GTS 125 will also have to be updated to Euro5+. Due to driving license regulations, the limit for 125cc engines in Europe is 15 hp. The current GTS 125 has 14 hp, so there is still a bit of room for improvement, but even there it will have to be solved by reducing the engine revs.

If Euro5+ is the aim, along with those noise targets, I wonder then the intent is not really more power (as hoped farther up in this thread) but the ability to maintain equivalent maximum power lower down the rev range as you've indicated.

We see this with some Honda bikes--probably others--in the USA, basically rev limiting top line performance to comply with EPA noise standards.

ie larger Vespa engine, yes, but no benefit because it's choked by the ECU.

Not a bad thing as for those who don't care, they get a quieter bike with the same power, and for those who do care they can--hopefully--remap the ECU...

Maybe not more maximum power but more torque and the main benefit would be Euro 5+ vehicles will emit fewer pollutants than Euro 5 vehicles, contributing to improved air quality and reduced environmental impact, which I'm sure you'll agree is a positive.

Nope! Euro5 / Euro5+ have IDENTICAL exhaust emission values from the requirements!

As I understand it, the new engine will actually have 310cc*, but of course I don't know whether it will still be called 300 or 310 or even 350.

*Whether it will end up being 308/309/311/312cc is of course also an option.

I bet these rumours started fast when 300 was out hmm, long time ago.
I have seen these at least 4 times during years.
I do not need bigger motor, but better brakes yes.

As both just interested of those -and thinking the 2024 model as the prices of non-used ones 2022 and 2023 seem quite just the same as this years model.

True but Euro 5+ builds on Euro 5 by giving importance to long-term catalytic converter performance, ensuring cleaner air and reduced exhaust emissions for motorcycles. Which is why I get annoyed at people who think it's clever to remove their bikes Cat.

This is of course internet truth so if it's not true the world will end.

So I just got a confirmation that the rumours are true from a Belgian dealer. They don't know the exact date but is will be arriving this year.

Some had hoped that something new would be presented at the Vespa World Days in Pontedera in April, but there was "only" the 140 years GTV special model.

The Pontedera plant is currently on vacation until the end of August, which means that no new vehicles are currently being delivered to dealers. Experience has shown that after the factory vacations, vehicles will start arriving at European dealerships again from mid-September.

With the MY23 facelift, the first new vehicles will arrive at dealerships from the beginning / middle of October 2022. Due to sea transportation, it took correspondingly longer to the USA.

In Europe, all vehicles registered for the first time must meet the Euro 5+ emissions standard from January 2025.

There are rumors that the increase in performance might not be quite so lavish (a manageable increase in HP seems possible, but a significant increase in torque at low revs). But as I said, these are all rumors and speculations.

Nope! Larger displacement has been confirmed several times. Model name "310" as well, whether this then technically corresponds to 307,308,309,310,311cc displacement remains to be seen...

confirmed it's coming. not confirmed when. a dealer offering to take a deposit is not confirmation.

You guys have it wrong. A reliable source tells me the 310 is going into the primavera frame. Top speed is still limited to 100km/60mph but it has enough pickup to not get run down by EVs at the traffic lights.

Apparently some thug has an instagram channel celebrating the torture of a poor innocent GTS through all manner of outback road atrocities. The river crossing was particularly upsetting to the Piaggio executives.

A 310 might actually be the update that makes me at least think about upgrading from my 250.

And by upgrading, I mean maybe I park it in the 250's current spot, relegating the 250 to the less visible spot next to it in the garage.

The only hope I have is that they remove that shiny silver piece of plastic left and right on the handle bar where all those buttons are placed. I find it horrible and in Pontedera at the VWD a lot of people talked about that shit.

Black switch surrounds are available and come on some models but changing them over is a horrible job.
