Oil level was fine when I purchased.
In the two weeks of riding after it had sat in the previous owners garage for four months, the oil light did come on, I topped off per recommendation immediately and the light went out.
I am thinking a bit of oil was consumed due to being pressed into service after being dormant.
There is no negligence on my part here as is being presupposed, I was urged to edit my posts by some well meaning people as to not risk liability, but there is none. Scoot is at the dealer getting initial service completed. Thank you to those who were helpful.

(I bought a "new" 2024 GTS HPE with 500 miles on the odometer, it now has 620 miles on the odometer and the service light have came on this afternoon. I know it is time to schedule "break in" service, but also have noted the faint smell of burning plastic durning my ride home today…help!)

Waiting until in cools down, then will.
If I need to top off, what oil should I grab? I am over an hour away from the Gainesville and Orlando Vespa dealerships.

You don't need to go to a Vespa dealer to get oil. You can get 5W-40 full synthetic from auto stores, walmart, motorcycle shops, etc. as long as it meets the Vespa specs which are:

SAE 5W-40: JASO MA, MA2; API SL; ACEA A3 (hint: that is directly from the owners manual)

Full synthetic

The owners manual is a wonderful thing. Makes for good bedtime reading and a reference for maintenance schedule.

Notice in the pages before that is the maintenance schedule. You can do that by yourself as the most important thing is the oil/filter and hub oil change.

Since I can't find 5W-40 full syn oil here, I order the oil, Castrol, thru Amazon. I also order the filters which are HiFlo HF197 (same as HF183 but have a 17mm nut on the end which makes removing easier). Hub oil you can get at walmart or auto parts store.

The oil lamp indicates a lack of "oil pressure", not "oil level"!
If a lack of oil pressure is displayed while driving and the cause is an oil level that is too low, then it is usually already too late for the engine...
When exactly did you notice the oil pressure light? Did you continue driving with it?

When did you last check the oil level?

When I bought it from the previous owner, there were no "idiot lights" on, it was under 500 miles "new". I have owned it for less than two weeks, have put just 120 miles on it.

Considering the low oil, I'd get this in for service right away, where the rest of the fluids etc. can be thoroughly inspected.

Can you specify this in understandable units of measurement? 🙈
1 quart = 946ml, of which 80% = 757ml, correct?
The total fill quantity for the GTS is 1300ml (1.3 liters), between min and max on the dipstick is about 300ml. If you really had to top up 750ml, then you were well below the minimum.

Check the oil level on the main stand on an absolutely level surface when the engine is really cold, again before the next ride. Screw in the oil dipstick completely before reading.

Check the oil level at least every other refueling gas.

by the way, the wrench icon is just a reminder that you are due for a service. ie it is not a warning.

In Europe, damage caused by insufficient operating resources is not covered by the warranty.

Since the OP mentioned Gainesville and Orlando, I'm fairly confident in stating those towns are not in Liechtenstein therefore european warranty rules are as useful as a poopie-flavored lollipop.

Then just tell me if the warranty conditions for North America cover the customer's fault of not checking oil level. Thanks!

That faint smell of burning plastic may just be the normal smell that comes from the belt when it is hot. If so it is completely normal.

After a freeway excursion I can definitely smell the belt on my Vespas.

My 10,000km GTS was sold to me with about 500mL (of the expected 1300mL) present. No oil pressure warnings and the bike was running sweetly but that little volume of oil was working mighty hard. Not sure the PO had heard of the term "dip-stick" but had he been present I would have called him one.

Just Inverness? If its only the one town where the light is on then common sense suggests to stay away. Especially after the incident with the coat hanger.

It's a well-known term (well, at least in the US) dating back over half a century, and means precisely what OP is referring to.

I have a 2022 GTS 300HPE Supertech and I have had the same issues so I have gone to 10W40 oil. Up in the Far North queensland its 31deg c on average so the thicker oil will sort this issue i hope.

For starters, the "wrench" is simply a service reminder.

It comes on at service intervals and stays on until it is turned off, instructions that are missing in the owner's manual.

Mine has been on since 620 miles, now at 7,000.

I am surprised that the scooter's oil got so low so quickly.

While the first HPE engines have a well documented oil consumption issue, my 2023 has not burned any oil in the almost one year I have owned it.

That includes the 2023 Scooter Cannonball Run, where I checked the oil level every day, and it showed full every day.

Not a drop was added in 3,500 miles.

Bill

IF THE MAINTENANCE SYMBOL IS PERMANENTLY ILLUMINATED:

2023 models (regardless of whether non-SuperTech or SuperTech):

"Ignition on, Mode button/joystick to the left up to the battery indicator, hold down Mode/joystick for 5 seconds, after 3 seconds the wrench symbol flashes and "COUPON RESETTING" is displayed. Once the process has been successfully completed, "COUPON RESETTED" is displayed."

However, if you reset the service symbol at 7000mls, it will no longer match the time or distance interval.
