I recently bought a 2023 GTS SuperTech coming from a 2021 Genuine Buddy 170. Here are my unsolicited, biased thoughts:

Some background:
I've been riding 2-wheeled things since 2010 in L.A., Portland, and San Francisco.

GTS:
The engine is so much smoother and quieter
The acceleration is more linear and controlled
Seat is roomier and ample room on the floorboards
Way better suspension
Those LED lights are nice and bright

Buddy:
Lighter and easier to muscle around
Non-covered shelf on foot shield is an advantage
Switches (turn signals, start button, horn, etc.) are higher quality and have better actuation
Bigger and cooler underseat storage

I loved my Buddy and there are definitely things I will miss, but the smooth power and upper end capability of the Vespa easily wins in the long run.

^ I had a Vespa GTS 300 in 2011 new and simulatenaously I had a 125cc. I also rode a 170i as a test scooter. The very first difference is the size. The Vespa is massive compared to the buddy. The Vespa is also way more stable and yes it is very quiet, too quiet for my taste.

The gts300 Accelerates quick to 55mph and it takes a while to start picking hip speed after that. The Buddy's are fairly quick of the line too. I just don't feel as safe on the buddy as I do on a Vespa GTS300. The 12" wheels and heavy duty suspension on the Vespa give you that safety cushion. If you wait a few minutes I might put some pictures from when I had them both.

I have both a GTS and a Buddy so I obviously solved the either/or problem years ago. I regard the two as scooters for different purposes. I love afternoon rides on country roads and sometimes do overnight rides with friends. The GTS excels in that role. For rides around the neighborhood or running errands, the light weight and quickness of the Buddy (I ride a Kick) suits me well. My partner has ridden a Buddy 125 for many years. Neither she nor I were ever fans of riding 2 up. She wanted a scooter she felt comfortable riding herself. She is 5'3" and the Buddy suited her due to its light weight and low seat. It matched her comfort level and we often ride together on the Buddy's. Horses for courses as the Brits say.

That can easily be rectified.

lol... I've looked at aftermarket exhausts and from what I can tell, weight savings is the only good thing. Maybe baseball cards in the spokes?
