Is there a specific direction that LX50 rollers need to be fitted in? I've seen guides for LX150 roller replacement that refer to roller direction based on 'open' and 'closed' sides, but I can't see any difference between the sides on the rollers for my LX50. Thanks in advance!

Thanks for your reply. That video is also for an LX150 - I'm looking for info on LX50 rollers as they seem to be different.

All rollers are basically the same except for weight. Post a picture or your rollers and what concerns you

With your variator open side facing you, the fat side of the roller goes to the right at the 6:00 spot. This is universal. This is the side the roller is pushed against with centrifugal as the vaiator speeds up.

If both sides look the same, as is often the case with Japanese and Taiwanese scooters and a lot of aftermarket rollers, it doesn't matter. And once you opened enough Vespa variators, you come to realize it doesn't matter much to the people putting them together at the factory either.

I installed the rollers last night (next time I will ask the question before I install parts!) so I will open it up again tonight to check. Unfortunately I don't have an extra 'one-time use' variator nut, so I will need to order another and wait for it to arrive unless I can use something like loctite on it in the meantime?

Use the nut again - just make sure it's torqued to the proper torque. The Belville washer won't have given up the ghost just yet.

Here are the photos of the rollers I installed yesterday - they are identical on both sides. I was also able to find the rollers I removed - the only difference was that the metal inner had shifted inside the plastic outer on the older rollers, presumably due to the centrifugal forces.

The new rollers are OEM Piaggio from ScooterWest.
