My LX50 has been struggling to tick over after I have replaced the alternator. I have checked everything with the parts that I had to reinstall and everything seems to be all good with the battery being fully charged. It has been sitting for a week while I waited for all of the parts to come to replace the alternator. This has happened before with my bike only sitting for 7 hours which it magically started working 2 days after when I tried to start my bike again.

I have attached the video to the sound it makes: https://youtube.com/shorts/zvZrLI4Cj48

What year is the scooter?

Have you pulled the spark plug to check for spark?

See this:

You shouldn't need to twist the throttle so much.

Could you explain this a little more? How long ago was this? When it "magically" started working, did it run normally thereafter? Did this only happen one time, or have you been able to start it sometimes?

Do you smell fuel when you're trying to start it, as in the video?

The Vespa is 2006.
I don't have a spark plug tester to test it.

Yes, so I went to work and it rained all day with my bike being exposed to the rain for 7 hours. I went to start my bike and it didn't start at all so I had to leave my bike under this cover for two days.
When I got back to come fix it again the bike started with no explanation at all and ran perfectly fine afterwards until the starter motor went due from me excessively trying to start it after my work.
This and the other time was the only times this has happened, all the other times the bike starts perfectly.

There was no essence of fuel when starting the bike and there never has been ever since I have had it for 9 months now.

You don't need spark plug tester. Just pull plug, put spark plug cap back on, rest it on engine block, crank and see if there is a spark If there is, then you have a fuel delivery issue

Smell of gas: I was concerned that you had flooded the carburetor with so much pumping the throttle, but that's less of a concern now that you've confirmed you don't smell anything.

Next I would try the kill switch. Flip it on and off a few times, then confirm that it's on Run.

Just a quick test: try squeezing the other brake lever when you're trying to start. Confirm that the brake light comes on when you apply the brakes. This will rule out faulty brake switches.

You don't need a "spark plug tester" to check the spark plug. You will need a spark plug wrench and some other hand tools, and perhaps another person to start the scooter while you're holding the plug against the frame and looking for a spark. Refer to ""Won't start" diagnosis for beginners" in the troubleshooting wiki link above.

Seeing as how you're also having trouble with the rear brake, maybe it's time to start thinking about taking it to a dealer.

The kill switch and brake lever tests are easy things you can do yourself.

Edit...

Before I had the bike it wasn't used very much, only once every 2 weeks just so it can keep it going and he never used to put much fuel in it so it didn't get dirty. Ever since I have had it, I have changed the rear and front bulb, replaced the exhaust due to rust, changed and clean the air filter every 3 weeks, changed the starter motor and alternator, cleaning the carb, rear wheel change.
I just saw this in the other thread. Sounds like you're capable of doing the troubleshooting steps yourself. Good luck!

It can't be a faulty brake light switch as the starter works.

Where about is the kill switch located on the LX50? I've never thought that it would have one.
Thank you for the tests, I will run them later

If you added "UK" to your profile, then folk might realise you don't have a North American spec' bike.

Maybe the LX50 doesn't have one. I dunno, most modern scooters do.

If it's there, it's the rocker switch on the right handlebar above the Start button.

Edit...

Jimc, if that isn't the kill switch in the video, what is it? It looks to me like it may be turned off.

Hmmm...There's no label on this switch. Maybe it's non-functional. I'm confused.

That's a cover where the kill-switch would be in the USA.

Later UK ones had kill-switches though.

Anyway, that's not your problem.

It's quite confusing to look at 😂, but it's just a piece of plastic to make it look identical to the other side.

Any luck using the kick start? As above did you confirm your spark plugs working?
