Hi all - a question for the carb experts

I am rebuilding my shb 19.19 carb. I have the gasket kit for it but I am unsure what other parts have too much wear and need to be replaced.

First is the throttle slide, it has visible wear marks on it. I assume it needs to be replaced.

Second is the various jets, I have soaked all the parts in acetone for 24+ hours so that should have cleaned the gunk from them. Is that usually enough? Can I just blow air through them and re-use them?

Better to replace. But to be honest on my 19.19 slide looks similar or even worse when I got the carb. Was work for six years without any issues and I'm sure it will be work further but I got another carb.

Yes for sure.

Thanks. I took it to local Vespa shop and he said it's more of a rub mark , there is no groove. Following his advice I am going to use the existing slide and clean up all the jets as much as possible. Am replacing all the seals and gaskets.

After a good clean and replacement of the float, float pin, rings and gaskets etc I have managed to finish my carb rebuild.

now to make it sit on the manifold and somehow not leak....

and it's also that time you have to decide which side the felt ring goes on - the debate has never been fully resolved!

Ok will cross that bridge in a while as I have a few jobs to do before I get the engine back in the frame.

I am using the original manifold and carb so they should match well. Will let you know when I try and put them back together.

Goes on last, just before the carb. At least that what I found on all those I've taken apart w/ at least one probable virgin.

Also get a new RED float needle if you didn't replace that, and you might wanna burnish its brass seat with a souvlaki skewer for extra insurance against leakage.

Have been delayed in finishing this off. I managed to accidentally pull the cable inners down into the tunnel of my et3 and spent a whole afternoon trying to get them back in place. I am now ready to time the engine before installation.

Thanks for the link, that explains the 'souvlaki' stick process.

One last question, are there different size choke cables for a smallframe? It is really difficult to fit the brass plunger to the end of the cable with the adjuster installed.

There is 146mm and 133mm sleeve lengths but cable in both is 203mm.
And it is easy to fit plunger.
