I installed a Malossi variator kit and a new belt onto my wife's LX50 4T. When I took it for a test drive afterwards everything was good in the neighborhood at 30kph. But when I got to a road with a higher speed limit, it wouldn't accelerate past about 35kph. Previously, it hauled my fat behind to about 46-47kph, with a German/EU governor of 50kph. It accelerated smoothly, no clutch slipping, no weird noises, no unusual smells (like a belt cooking), just no go. Anyone have any pointers before I take the whole thing apart again later this week?

Thank you

Did you put the white spring in the clutch?

For the LX50 4 stroke, the weights with the Malossi variator are a little heavy. Remember, this is a tuning part, and doesn't come set up perfectly for every 50cc Piaggio powered scooter ever made. The LX 50 four stroke is unfortunately a heavy, ponderous beast that is woefully underpowered, so the engine doesn't have the power to get up into power band with the heavier weights. I would suggest dropping to a 5 gram weight. Any 19x15 weights will work. That should get you more performance everywhere. Also, what belt did you use and did you change the air filter at the same time? In other words, what else did you do when you installed the variator and belt?

I did the complete variator kit, including the white clutch spring, and also installed a new belt.
