the air valve on my back tire has a small leak, is there a way i can repair this on my own without having the tire wheel removed?

Any good motorcycle shop should be able to swap out the valve stem while the tyre is still mounted.

You can DIY - the tool is ~$30 from Amazon:

avoid the metal stems and get the rubber pop in ones.

you can break the bead off the rim with a big c-clamp and smoosh the tire over enough to snap in a new stem. the problem is that you'll need to re-seat the bead, so you'll need compressed air-- and a fair amount of it for that. or... another method for doing so. (*cough* *cough* ether and a match)

rubber, steel, brass or alum. pull thru/pop in valves are all okay in my book

the "bolt on" ones I don't like because everybody always buys the absolute most low rent version of them off of amazon and the fit is crap, the seals are crap and the valve is crap.

Dealer screwed up my tire install 3 yrs ago. Tech tore the valve stem, which I didn't discover until I tried to check the PSI after I'd gone through all the fun of a wheel install!

Not wanting to remove the wheel again, and not wanting to wrestle a new stem inside the tire....I chose to try one of these COLBY valves on my 2018 LIBERTY S.
Installed externally.

Well, it has never leaked since I installed it 3 yrs ago.
@ $24 > $30 for a pair of them.

To bead a tire I use a ratchet tie down around the middle of the tire cinch it down real tight enough so you have a deep groove in the middle remove the valve core then inflate with a compressor to bead it you may have to reposition the strap so both tire beads are tight to the rim and using soapy water can help the bead seat.
