Modern Vespa

Quick question to the collective. I have a two month old 300gts, its done 800 miles and had its first dealer service.

Today I did a thirty mile ride then stopped for fuel. On returning to the bike I noticed the headlight was still on. Oh I thought I must have left the keyless ignition switch partly on. But no the ignition was off.

Set off home and when I parked the bike up the light stayed on. I searched on here and folk recommended turning it to the steering lock position, again light on. But heres the rub, the light occasionally goes off for about 3 seconds then on again!

I pulled all three relays in the glove box( one at a time) the light stayed on. I found the five amp fuse and pulled it , so I wont have a flat battery, however the 5A fuse also controls the MIA display, fuel / odometer / temp etc.


Lastly I reinserted the fuse to see if the problem had cleared and a " software update" message flashed up for about 2 seconds.


Its bank holiday here in the UK , so I will email the dealer on Tuesday.

In the meantime I wondered if anyone has had this happen to them and what was the solution?

Thanks Steelbytes, I too thought of that. No the lights are on 5/ 10 minutes after ignition switch off. During this time they blink off then back on solid!

i have had the same symptoms.

on sunday morning i tried to start my 2023 supertech and the battery was flat so i trickle charged it.

this morning it had finished and i rode out to the shops. when there i noticed the headlight was still on long after it shouldn't be.

i have now ridden home and investigated. after checking relays i saw it was briefly turning the lights off every 30 seconds with the bike turned off, then turning them back on again.

having found this thread i disabled the auto follow me in the ios app and now the lights come on when they should and go off when they should. everything seems fine now.

i park very close to my house so i guess i've been remaining connected to bluetooth and it's continuously trying to light my way home.

this seems to be related to the ios app update from 2 days ago.

Raettig this is great stuff. I have disabled the auto follow me and I will see how I get on.

Update , following the disabling I have been out for a short ride. Arrived home no light on.

Steelbytes you were right, but it wasnt 30 seconds it was hanging! I waited 15 mins. According to the post above Vespa changed their IOS app last week resulting in three members on here having the issue.

Make sure you tell your dealer so they can robustly complain to Piaggio!

Good idea Jim , I did that last night as I could see a lot of vespas going in, relays being changed software up dated then the owners saying" its still happening " If it happed to three riders over just one weekend in our small population, imagine how many riders are waking up to dead scoots in the wider world!

Anyone have any idea which app version caused the error? There have been two updates in the last few days:

i can't be sure it wasn't introduced in the 2.9.3 fix and it's perhaps interesting that they pushed out another update a day later. but i am sure that i had 2.9.4 installed when i experienced the problem.

Ive just looked today Im on version 2.9.4 (P145) . The updates on the App store say Bluetooth issues😡🤬
