When I have done a few miles in sport mode on my 530 and then park up there is a petrol smell. This only happens when I have been driving in sport mode, any suggestions as to what causes this?

Probably just a leftover smell since the "sport mode" is letting the engine have the full fat.

If the smell persists after a couple of hours then there is something wrong.

Surely if there is a petrol smell then the engine is getting excessive fuel

How many miles/kms on this MP3? If it is still during the break in period (the first 600-1000mi/1K-1500 km) then it is probably just engine components and paints hardening and curing. Also the catalytic converter needs a few dozen heat cycles as well.
