I have a 2022 Primavera Sport 150. Curious how I would know if my battery needs to be replaced.

I don't ride my Vespa much. I love it, its fun. But, I use it randomly for local rides. So after almost 2 years, I don't even have 600 miles.

After not riding for about 4-6 weeks, my Vespa didn't start. Attached a portable jump starter and the bike started instantly and sounded strong. I rode it for about 15 mins. Stopped for groceries. Vespa started unassisted and rode another 5 mins home.

I didn't ride again for 7 days.

Vespa needed a jump start again.

One thing worth noting, when the Vespa didn't start on its own, when it started, the clock and various display settings reset.

Do I need to replace my battery?

Thanks for everyone's thoughts in advance.

Bill, different brand batteries can be a fickle lot. My experience has been to charge a battery after two to three weeks of non use and remove charger. I've had mixed results with battery tenders so don't use them. I'd say get a new battery. Three years has been the norm for me on agm types with regular use. You can charge it and do a load test to be sure. Digital testers can be had on Amazon.

If you're going to ride infrequently, keep the battery on a battery tender when you're not riding. It doesn't sound like you need a new battery.

Easy way to know definitively if you need a battery or not, have it tested. Any local auto parts store can test it for you. Don't bring it in for testing when its flat. Charge it and then bring it in for testing. The test will determine how well the battery is storing the charge.
