HEAR YE, HERE YE!

The much ballyhoo'd annual Polistes Paper Wasp release ceremony from the Backlund Memorial Winter Wasp-a-torium is slated for this Saturday May 10th, Year Of Our Lord, 2-ought-24, at 2:00 mountain time, USA.

A photographer (me) will be in attendance to mark the joyous event and chronical the buzzy egress of my teensy, stingy, guests.

Remember, kids....'Vespa' is Italian for 'Wasp'.

But don't take it from me, hear it from the Soon-To-BEE--Paroled Cootie spokesbug herself....

Yeah, the Wasp community's delegated Spokes-Wasp provided the preferred date and time for their spring release, and silly me, I didn't double check the info and sure enough, it appears that wasps don't exactly have a very solid concept of precise times and dates.

It IS going to happen this afternoon, however.

It gets worse they are all trying to get in, one wasp shouted "there's plenty of space in here"

Ear Ye, Ear Ye alright

NOW whose the wise guy.

Sniff!.....the nest is.....empty.

Trixie and I witnessed our little six-legged charges fly off into a South Dakota hyper-blue May sky.

Amazingly to me, three of the original five made it through a bit over six months of autumn, winter, and spring months, to finally buzz off to freedom this fine May afternoon in mid 70's warmth and sunshine.

They lived exclusively on sugar water and slightly diluted bee honey.

As soon as the gates of the Waspitorium were swung open, two flew out too fast to get any photos of them, but the third and last 'Wingy-Stingy-Bugger' hesitated at the entry just long enough for a couple of parting shots....then she too....was gone.

I watched her as she hesitated uncertainly for several seconds, then launched herself skyward, flying almost straight up and then over the eves of the house's roof and disappeared into the clear blue sky...forever, oblivious of the almost silent parting prayer that left my quivering lips........"Godspeed my teensy winged devil-bug, Godspeed!".

And it was done.

What did I tell you JB cant stand to see a grown man cry , now pull your pants up, tie your shoe laces, wipe your nose and get on with life.
