I have a 2008 mp3 500 and the master cylinder is dead, I removed it from the bike and see that it has the old style mounts (single holes). The new style has slots and they seemed to have switched to the new style mid production for the 2008 models. I can get the new style locally, but have to order the old style one
line and it is going to cost a lot in shipping and fees.

It seems unlikely that there would be much of a change in mid production run and the change in the attachments seems to be for ease of assembly.

Does anyone know it I can use the new style in place of the old cylinder or do I have to have the old style?

I may not need a new master cylinder. The push rod was completely loose and I assumed unfixable, but then I did the old accidental drop fix!

I had the cylinder in rag on the end of my workbench and in moving tools around I pushed it off the end of my bench and on to the concreate floor. When I picked it up the rod was working again, spring back into position, air hisses out when compressed. Don't know if it will leak once I reconnect and recharged, or just come loose again.
Going to rebuild the system tonight.
