Noob question # 3,146:

Does anyone ever add an extra pinch bolt on their cables, as an extra layer of insurance to keep them from slipping? One could even add one behind the bracket on the front brake cable. (The standard pinch bolts won't fit the rear brake cable—probably the place you'd want this most—tho perhaps one could drill out the pinch bolt a tad.)

Anyway, anyone ever do this? Yes? No?
If not, why not?

Sincerely,

Mr. Belt AND Suspenders

I've never had a pinch bolt slip on either clutch or brake cable, as long as the little plug inside hasn't slipped out.

No. Never.

I mean, you go for it, maybe someday it'll pay off. But it just seems like an extra pain in the ass to me.

Good to know. This is my first Vespa, a 1980. I've been wondering how well the pinch bolts hold, over time. Thanks.

2nd pinch bolt on the clutch cable is a really cheap insurance policy.
