I installed a new one a few days ago and then couldn't get my GT200 restarted. So I removed one end of the line, that towards the carburetor, then blew compressed air into the fuel tank until fuel entered and exited the new fuel filter. Then I took a small funnel and poured some fuel into the detached fuel line. After reinstalling the line and tightening I was able to easily restart the scooter. I thought I had better test it out so I jumped on and rode a hundred yards down the street. Then rode back and turned to rinse and repeat. But I only got 30-40 yds before it stalled out from lack of fuel. So I went through the repriming procedure once more and retested with the same result. Has anyone had a similar experience?

Right after posting I noticed that Jas67 had just posted another fuel pump question. And that Jimc had replied questioning whether he had done the recall. Is the GT200 covered under the same recall?

I decided to put in a new filter due to an issue I was having. I live up a hill where the road climbs about 400ft over about half a mile of travel. I was able to get to one street before mine before the scooter would die. After turning it off and waiting 30 seconds it would restart and complete the climb. After several times of this happening and it happened the same way each time I noticed if I turned right on the street just below mine I could parallel my street where it was flat at which point I'm thinking enough fuel would flow into the line to equalize things then I could turn left and continue the climb to my street without ever stopping or slowing. So knowing my fuel filter was no less than 10 years old I figured that was a good place to start.

The rats nest of fuel hoses and vacuum lines that is the GT 200 fuel delivery system can be difficult to decipher. The pump is really necessary about two thirds of the way down the tank. So if you want to make sure that's your issue, fill the tank, run a fuel line from the petcock to the carb, lock the vacuum valve on the petcock, or fuel valve, open, and ride it. Make sure you don't go too far to push it home. If you run the tires about five pounds over the recommended pressure, it's also easier to push home.
If the bike runs fine, you can work forward and figure out where the issue is. Fuel pumps are directional. There's usually an arrow on them to that effect.
