We have a Tesla dealer just down the street and there were a couple on the lot the other day. I'm starting to see them out in the wild.

I'm trying to understand why you'd actually want to own one.
Well, apart from the chronic attention seeking of course. After that I think that we're home free. |

Randy was in his early 30s by this time. He looked at me and said, "You know, the whole time I was doing all that stuff, the only person I was impressing was myself." I said, "Randy, I think you just grew up a little today." = Cybertruck

I saw one yesterday and I live in the heart of flyover country. 400 miles from the nearest Tesla dealership.
The new champion what I consider to be the ugliest vehicle I have ever seen. By a wide margin.

Actually, most Teslas are great looking. It is hard to believe they popped out this hideous truck.
I am the opposite of a big fan of electric vehicles. At the volume they are stacking up unsold at dealerships, it appears the general public shares my opinion. Bob Copeland |

The Patrol may not be beautiful, but the design is quite functional, which is a beauty in itself. I happen to like boxy designs, as they are usually quite practical. The Cybertruck has none of this, IMO.

It's not that it's ugly, which it is, it's that it's ugly and it thinks it's hot.

Quote: "Although surface ugliness is often found in the classic mode of understanding, it is not inherent in it. There is a classic aesthetic which romantics often miss because of its subtlety. The classic style is straightforward, unadorned, unemotional, economical, and carefully proportioned. Its purpose is not to inspire emotionally, but to bring order out of chaos and make the unknown known. It is not an aesthetically free and natural style. It is aesthetically restrained. Everything is under control. Its value is measured in terms of the skill with which this control is maintained. "To a romantic this classic mode often appears dull, awkward, and ugly, like mechanical maintenance itself. Everything is in terms of pieces and parts and components and relationships. Nothing is figured out until it's run through the computer a dozen times. Everything's got to be measured and proved. Oppressive. Heavy. Endlessly grey. The death force. "Within the classic mode, however, the romantic has some appearances of his own. Frivolous, irrational, erratic, untrustworthy, interested primarily in pleasure-seeking. Shallow. Of no substance. Often a parasite who cannot or will not carry his own weight. A real drag on society. By now these battle lines should sound a little familiar." - Pirsig |

I'll have a bet with all of you about how the concept of that paperweight came up.
Someone said " You'll never make that " and Elon said " Hold my beer". I'm with you on the Sci - Fi references but I would throw in Damnation Alley for good measure. The 0 - 60 is just bollocks as no one actually uses it in the real world. It's a One Trick Pony blended with a Vanity Project. Just awful. |

I didn't like the styling of the Cybertruck until I realized why it looks that way.
My wife saw it and ordered it. It will work great for us. When I bought my Tesla I realized the era of piston engines was drawing to a close. I don't care about the "climate crisis" scam, EVs are objectively better for the job. |

It looks that way because the body panels are 1) a large part of the structural integrity and (related..) 2) an exceptionally hard stainless steel, exclusive to them that requires certain methods to fabricate , as well as 3) needing to be aerodynamic and 4) designed to be built in large numbers.
Lots of stuff out there to see about it. I won't bother you with it but regardless of the looks, it's a remarkable piece of engineering. |

And DeLorean did it already in 1981 so it's not that remarkable.
Funny how they didn't rust. |

Just putting this out there:
https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a37940552/lo-res-car-auction-bring-a-trailer/ I find the Lo Res to be much more interesting when it comes to futuristic looking (read: low poly count) EVs. Shame they only made four prototypes. |

Saw a flat black one yesterday on I-64 west of Williamsburg VA.
Maybe they were worried about stainless steel rusting. It didn't help the looks either. |
