Hi everyone, this is my first post here.

I recently bought a 2023 primavera 50. I decided I wanted a bit more torque for riding 2-up, so I pulled the trigger on a malossi 80cc kit with the matching ECU.

The install wasn't too difficult except I had some difficulty getting the piston at TDC. I don't understand why it was off because I marked the cam sprocket and chain before disassembling the head. Eventually I was able to get the piston at TDC. The mark I made on the chain was about 4 links off even though the the arrow was lined up initially.

After I buttoned eveything up, I did the TPS programming. Unfotunately, the service engine light is now on. After seeing this I did more searching online and found out that the malossi euro 5 ECUs are not updated for the 2023 MY.

I am beginning to regret the cylinder install+ECU. The power isn't much more and the serivce engine light on is a disappointment.

Now the questions:

Is it normal for the exhaust to stink right after intalling the malossi kit?
It smells the burning plastic.

Does anyone have any solutions for clearing the engine service light?

The bike is idling just fine but the power just isn't there. I can't help think I did something wrong during the install. I should also mention that I switched back the original ECU and the service light turned off almost immediately.

Hopefully someone can ease my mind about my messing up my 13km engine.

Yikes. If it's brand new, the exhausts do smell of paint burning off for the first hundred or so miles. The rest of this sounds like lesson learned unfortunately.

The motor is running hotter so it is definitely possible there's paint burning off.

I am going to contact malossi today to see if they have an updated ecu. Unfortunately the malossi ecu doesn't work with a scan tool so I'll have to pop the original to quickly scan the code.

I believe around 2022 / 2023 was the change between Euro 4 and Euro 5. The power figures changed slightly, as did the CO2 figures (at least they did on the 125cc).

The exhaust also gained what I can only assume is a mini heat shield externally on the small pipe before the main exhaust back box / muffler.

You will only see the full power once the fuelling is setup correctly, so don't judge the power difference just yet!

Most of the engine kits are also a higher compression, so I would expect you to see more than the 60% power gain that the higher cc's give.

There is definitely some power but it's difficult to know what exactly is wrong if the ecu can't communicate with the scan tool.

The only "known" issue with the 2023 MY is the secondary air pump is no longer present as it was in 2022.

I went out for ride earlier and the bike bogged at WOT. I did notice that I can't keep a consistent tempo when I hold the throttle steady.

This malossi crap is such a headache.

Just wanted to update this for future reference.

Malossi makes a new ecu for 2023+. Many dealers do not know which one they have unless they open the box and check the serial codes on the unit.

My issue was resolved by the seller and bike is running perfectly.

On the subject of exhaust burning smell. My 300 gts my 2023 smelt of burning for probably 300 km.

After I installed the new ECU, the burning smell went away almost immediately. I am not sure if it was because of a different tune or just coincidence. Either way, I am pleased with the MASSIVE 80cc upgrade Laughing emoticon

So you've revised your opinion on "Malossi crap?"

Yes and no. Malossi support is horrible and basically non-existent. I had to do all the research myself and push for a solution. The seller was also apprehensive about me returning the ECU but eventually they understood the issue.

I could have had better support from Polini as they explicitly state the issues with the 2023+ models and their ECUs. The cylinder kit is essentially the same for both.
